‘Bee packages’ at the Peninsula Feed Store

Local beekeepers, Saturday, April 13, came to the Peninsula Feed Store in Redwood City to pick up their ‘bee packages,’ which contain one of three varieties of queen bees, along with dozens of worker bees and maybe a few drones. The keepers will transport the packages to home hives where the queens will settle in and begin laying eggs. To ensure a safe ride home, a member of the Beekeepers Guild of San Mateo County vacuums the outside of each package to remove any bees who have escaped.
