STAGE DIRECTIONS:

156 Eddy St. (at Taylor), San Francisco. The mid-block doorway leads into a series of multi-use spaces, which include the EXIT café, serving light fare, beer, wine, sodas and coffee. Food and drink may be taken into all the theaters on site. Seating is either at stage-level or behind counters on a series of broad risers.

CURRENTLY RUNNING:

"The Wind and Rain.” "There were two sisters of County Claire, Oh the wind and rain. One was dark and the other was fair. Oh the dreadful wind and rain….” Part of EXIT’s DIVAfest 2010, a festival dedicated to creating work by women writers, "The Wind and Rain” is a new play by Claytie Mason based on a Celtic folk song of love and jealousy. 90 minutes. No intermission. Through May 1.

COMING ATTRACTION:

"A Most Notorious Woman.” A multi-layered portrait of the pirate queen and Irish tribal chieftain Grace O’Malley, who caused the English to fear her and Elizabeth I to confront her. July 23 to Aug. 14.

GETTING THERE:

Driving from the Peninsula, take Highway 101 and then Interstate 280 north, exiting at Sixth Street. Follow Sixth until it crosses Market Street and than bear slightly right onto Taylor Street. Go two blocks and then make a right onto Eddy Street. EXIT Theatre is one-half block up on the left. There is an attended, private surface parking lot directly across the street from EXIT Theatre. Parking is also available at the City-owned Ellis-O’Farrell Garage in the Union Square district three blocks away. By public transportation, take BART to Powell and Market streets. Walk two blocks west on Eddy Street, which begins at Powell and Market.

Playwright Claytie Mason says, "‘The Wind and Rain’ is a collaboration between writer, visual artist, musician and performer, produced by Exit Theatre. We started with the question ‘How can we make something moving, delightful and thrilling in its liveness?’ It has been incredible to work with a group of such accomplished artists, so passionate about what they do, as well as the Exit Theatre, whose support and interest in pushing this art form has inspired us all.”

Cast member Brynna Inez Jourden is a fight choreographer and a member of the Society of American Fight Directors, an organization of those who earn a living choreographing fight scenes for stage and film.

SCENE AROUND:

SF Civic Center’s Museum of Performance and Design presents "Helgi Tomasson: A Life in Dance” in honor of Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson’s 25th Anniversary with San Francisco Ballet. The exhibition features artifacts from Tomasson’s celebrated career, along with two brief video programs displayed on monitors in the War Memorial Opera House lobby. Through May 9.
