'Sinners' and 'One Battle After Another' poised for an all-Warner Bros. showdown at Academy Awards
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stars are streaming down the red carpet at a 98th Academy Awards where few awards feel like shoo-ins, and the night is steering toward a coronation for either Paul Thomas Anderson or Ryan Coogler. Most would call that a win-win. Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” is the favorite heading into the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. But Coogler’s “Sinners” comes in the lead nominee with a record 16 nominations. Both filmmakers are poised to leave with their first Oscar. But little else is assured at an Academy Awards where Michael B. Jordan or Timothée Chalamet — despite the ballet diss heard 'round the world — could win their first Academy Award. The telecast will air live on ABC and stream on Hulu beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern.
‘Hoppers’ holds onto the No. 1 box office spot as 'Reminders of Him' overperforms
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Pixar’s “Hoppers” held onto its spot atop the box office, bringing in $28.5 million in its second weekend. That's according to studio estimates released Sunday. After its $45.3 million debut, The Walt Disney Co.’s “Hoppers” dipped a modest 37% in its second weekend, a promising sign for an animated movie. The weekend results also show Colleen Hoover’s “Reminders of Him” added to the author’s box-office streak. The Universal film debuted in second place with a better-than-expected $18.3 million. The film is the first from a screenplay that Hoover co-wrote, but not the first of her novels to successfully translate to the big screen. “Undertone,” a micro-budget horror movie from A24, opened with $9.3 million.
The Latest: Stars walk the red carpet at the 2026 Academy Awards
The wait in Hollywood is almost over: The 98th Academy Awards premiere at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific on Sunday. Comedian Conan O’Brien is back for a second year to host the ceremony, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. It’s an Oscars race that seemed like a runaway for “One Battle After Another” but may be a close call after all, thanks to some late-season wins for “Sinners.” Other films with several nominations include “Sentimental Value,” “Marty Supreme,” “Frankenstein” and “Hamnet.” A picture-perfect sunny afternoon greeted early arrivals at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday. This year, the carpet is colored in an earthy brown shade called “red rock.”
The day before the Oscars, the ‘Bridesmaids’ rehearsed
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The “Bridesmaids” cast has reunited at the Dolby Theatre as Oscar presenters. On Saturday Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Ellie Kemper, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy ran through their lines and fine-tuned the timing. Byrne rehearsed with the group while also holding the distinction of being an acting nominee. Other presenters keep it casual too, with some wearing sneakers including Javier Bardem and Adrien Brody. The room felt calm as crews work through final checks, just 24 hours before the 98th Academy Awards. Conan O’Brien is returning to host the show, which will air live on ABC at 7 p.m. Eastern.

A company that evaluates news outlets and websites to see which produce reliable journalism says it's under attack by the Trump administration. NewsGuard has sued the Federal Trade Commission over an agency investigation that the company says is threatening its livelihood. NewsGuard's ratings system is used to help advertisers and artificial intelligence companies decide which news sites they can trust with their business. Conservative groups and the television network Newsmax says the ratings system is trying to censor conservative thought. The FTC says its investigation of NewsGuard is part of a broader effort to see whether advertiser boycotts violate antitrust laws.
Prince William shares a post remembering his late mother Princess Diana on UK Mother's Day
LONDON (AP) — Prince William has shared a message honoring his late mother Princess Diana to mark Mother's Day in the U.K. On Sunday, he posted on Instagram that he remembers his mother “today and every day.” He shared a photo of Diana with a 2-year-old William in a field of flowers, dating to 1984. Diana died in a Paris car crash in 1997, when William was 15. The royal family also posted other photos to mark Mothering Sunday, usually celebrated in March in the U.K. They shared a 1953 photo of the late Queen Elizabeth with a young King Charles and his sister, Princess Anne.
Oscars red carpet sees pops of color as stars arrive
For Hollywood’s biggest night, celebrities pay as much attention to their speeches as to their red-carpet attire. It’s a night to leave a mark not just on Hollywood but on best dressed lists and even make fashion history. This year’s 98th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. With a fashionable list of nominees, the stars are sure to impress on the red carpet while still keeping within the black-tie theme. Teyana Taylor and Timothée Chalamet are ones to watch on the red carpet as these stars are guaranteed to bring the drama. The ceremony will be streamed live on ABC and Hulu.
A seat at the table, but no vote yet for a Democratic lawmaker in the Kennedy Center board showdown
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge says a Democratic lawmaker is entitled to participate in a Kennedy Center board meeting to discuss President Donald Trump’s plan to close the performing arts center for two years of renovations. But the judge isn't forcing the board to let Joyce Beatty vote at Monday's meeting. The Ohio congresswoman is an ex officio member through her position in Congress. She sued to preclude the Trump administration from excluding her from the session where board members are expected to decide whether to approve the Republican president’s proposal to shutter the center during the construction project.
Trump ally Ric Grenell stepping down as Kennedy Center president
WASHINGTON (AP) — Richard Grenell is stepping down as president of the Kennedy Center after leading changes that drive artists away. President Donald Trump announced the shakeup on Friday. Trump says Matt Floca, who runs facilities operations, will replace Grenell. A person familiar with the plans says the board is set to finalize the move on Monday. Grenell played a key role in Trump’s push to overhaul the center and target “woke” culture. Trump replaced the old leadership and installed a loyal board. Major artists then canceled performances in protest.
