WASHINGTON (AP) — A judge has denied a request from the Kennedy Center to pause a ruling ordering President  Donald Trump's name removed from building. That denial came Friday. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled last month that Trump’s name was illegally added to the iconic Washington performing arts facility. Cooper ruled only Congress could institute a change to the Kennedy Center’s name and ordered references to Trump to be removed by Friday.  Now he's refused the Kennedy's Center board's request to stay the ruling.

David Hockney, iconic British artist known for his colorful landscapes and pool scenes, dies at 88

LONDON (AP) — Artist David Hockney has died. He was 88. His paintings of pools shimmering in the Los Angeles sunshine became icons of 20th-century art. He was one of the most popular and critically lauded British artists of the last century. He was born in the north of England but lived much of his life in Southern California, making its sun-drenched suburban views a major motif. Later in life he returned to Europe, finding renewed inspiration in the wooded hills of his native county of Yorkshire and the fields and trees of France’s Normandy region. Hockney’s publicist said Friday that he died at his home in London on Thursday.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ronnie Schell, known for his role on the 1960s sitcom “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.,” has died at 94. Schell died of natural causes Friday in Los Angeles. He played Marine Pvt. Duke Slater alongside Jim Nabors for three seasons. Schell left the show to star in “Good Morning, World,” but returned for its final season. Dubbed “America’s Slowest Rising Comedian,” Schell found steady work in comedy clubs and television. He appeared on shows like “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Love Boat.” Schell is survived by his wife, sons, and granddaughter.

Judge rules Trump can stage UFC fights on the White House's South Lawn this weekend

'Doctor Who' future uncertain as BBC scraps Christmas special and showrunner exits
