Shai Hope's 1st century against New Zealand lifts the West Indies to 247 in the 2nd ODI

The West Indies captain reached 90 from 62 balls but was stranded for almost three overs on that score as he gradually ran out of partners,

Shamar Springer was out to the first ball of the last over, leaving Hope off strike and the West Indies 235-9. But Jayden Seales hurried through for a single and Hope hit the next ball from Kyle Jamieson for six to complete his century, with 13 fours and four sixes.

He finished 109 not out.

Rain delayed the start of play by three hours, New Zealand won the toss and the match began in humid conditions in which the ball swung significantly early on. The first two overs of the innings were maidens.

John Campbell was out in the sixth over for 4, attempting to drive a ball from Jamieson and slicing it to Blair Tickner at third man. Keacy Carty followed for 7 chopping a length ball from Jamieson to backward point.

The West Indies were 20-1 after the first, seven-over power play.

Ackeem Auguste with 22 from 31 balls and Sherfane Rutherford with 13 off 9 did their best to keep the scoreboard moving rapidly before Hope took over as the anchor of the innings. With his help, the West Indies scored 50 runs between the ninth and the 14th overs.

After Rutherford, Roston Chase went cheaply as the West Indies slipped to 86-5 in the 16th over.

Hope reached his ODI half century from 42 balls before adding his next 50 runs from 25 balls. He put on 44 with Justin Greaves (22) for the sixth wicket and 47 with Romario Shephered (22) for the seventh.

Matthew Forde provide some late impetus, hitting three fours and a six from the 31st over, bowled by Jamieson and reached 21 from 11 balls before falling to the bowling of Nathan Smith.
