College of San Mateo and Skyline College are set for post-season basketball play.
The women’s state playoffs begin Wednesday with No. 18 NorCal seed College of San Mateo (16-11), which finished third in the Coast North Conference, playing at No. 15 Reedley (16-12) of the Central Valley Conference.
Skyline (10-18), the No. 22 seed in Northern California afer a fourth-place finish in the Coast North, travels to Salinas to face No. 11 Hartnell (17-11), the Coast South runner-up.
While both women’s teams in San Mateo County qualified for the post-season, only Skyline advanced on the men’s side. Skyline (22-6), second in the tough Coast North, earned the No. 7 seed and a first round bye. The Trojans will host, on Saturday evening, the winner of Wednesday’s opener, which pits No. 23 Cabrillo (15-13) at No. 10 Feather River (17-10).
State top-ranked City College of San Francisco (27-1), the Coast North champion, earned the top seed, ahead of defending state champion West Valley College (25-3) of the Coast South. Following a bye, CCSF hosts the Butte (16-12) at Fresno CC (18-10) first round winner and West Valley entertains the Sierra (14-14) at Shasta (15-12) survivor.
CN co-runner-up Las Positas (24-4) is seeded fifth. LPC was undefeated outside of Coast North play and took over the state top-ranking after giving CCSF its only 2024-25 setback in a first round game. Then Skyline upset Las Positas in Livermore to make the 2025 league race interesting. But Skyline fell just short of LPC, 77-74, in last Friday’s regular season finale. Â
Cañada (15-12) finished tied for fifth (with No. 20 seed Ohlone) in the Coast North, the state’s toughest league. The Colts, however, did not receive a playoff berth, despite a sparkling 10-3 non-league record. College of San Mateo finished seventh.
