Carlmont 56, Burlingame 52
The Scots (1-0 PAL Bay, 7-4 overall) squeaked out a win in their league opener against the Panthers (0-1, 8-6) despite a strong late push from Burlingame. Camden Ngo led the way for the Scots tallying 23 points on eight made field goals, while Alain Kazarian had 16 points of his own for the Panthers.
Half Moon Bay 61, Menlo-Atherton 54
Despite an impressive 32 point outing from senior John Anderson, the Bears (0-1 PAL Bay, 11-1 overall) dropped their first game of the season against the Cougars (1-0, 10-4). Junior Asher Meighen had 19 points for HMB while Gio Garduno Martin added 17 of his own, as the Cougars used a big first quarter for their momentum the rest of the way through.
El Camino 53, Aragon 42
Thanks to an explosive first and fourth quarter where the Dons (1-0 PAL Ocean, 6-7 overall) outscored the Colts (0-1, 5-10) 21-14 and 17-7 respectively, Aragon opens up league play with a home win. Anthony Yuen led the way for El Camino with 13 points, while Aragon distributed the wealth with three players tallying 10-plus points including Jacon Ruttenberg with 15, Branden Antiporda with 11 and Jasper Caffo with 12.
Terra Nova 47, South San Francisco 43
The Tigers (1-0 PAL Ocean, 7-5 overall) left 10 points wasted at the free throw line Wednesday night against the Warriors (0-1, 8-7), but it didn’t matter as they still won every quarter but one and the game. Tyrone Mehleeib led the way for Terra Nova tallying 19 points while sophomore Isaac Stamper had 16 of his own for the Warriors.
Woodside 38, San Mateo 37
The Wildcats (1-0 PAL Ocean, 8-4 overall) were able to overcome a rough second quarter against the Bearcats (0-1, 7-8) where they were outscored 17-5 to win a tightly-contested, low-scoring affair. Perhaps the biggest missed opportunity for San Mateo was going just 4-for-12 from the free throw stripe in their one-point loss as Kevin Perez from Woodside led the way for both teams with 17 points.
Capuchino 47, Sequoia 46
The Mustangs (1-0 PAL Lake, 7-9 overall) saw three of its players tally 10-plus points in their tight win over the Ravens (0-1, 4-10) including Isaiah Cruz with 17 points, Dermott Philpott with 15, and Dominic Vanden Berghe with 10.
Girls’ basketball
El Camino 32, Capuchino 28
Trailing 16-13 at halftime, the Colts outscored the Mustangs 19-12 in the second half to pull out the Ocean Division-opening win.
Mariah Flores led the way for El Camino (1-0 PAL Ocean, 5-8 overall), scoring 13 points.
Capuchino (0-1, 3-8) got nine points from Kailee Gonzalez.
Hillsdale 49, Woodside 32
The Knights rebounded from a Bay Division thrashing at the hands of Mills Tuesday with an easy non-league win over the Lake-Division Wildcats.
Kiara Nitao and Daniella Sierra led the way for Hillsdale (8-5), scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively. Jasmine Okamura, the Knights’ lone senior on the roster, filled up the stat sheet with seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Woodside (3-9) got a game-high 17 points from Gabbie Gerrodette.
Design Tech 44, Nueva School 33

The Dragons’ dynamic duo of Emi LaPedis and Jewel Wilson led them to the PSAL win over the Mavericks.
LaPedis scored a game-high 15 points, adding five rebounds and five steals, as well for d Tech (3-0 PSAL, 3-4 overall). Wilson was right behind with 14, five and four.
Nueva falls to 0-2 in PSAL play and 1-8 overall.
Boys’ soccer
Half Moon Bay 1, Carlmont 1
The Scots (0-0-1 PAL Bay, 7-1-1 overall) went up early in the first half but the Cougars (0-0-1, 5-1-2) would respond in the second to end Wednesday’s affair in a tie. It’s just the second game of the Scots first nine that they haven’t won as Joshua Lisi found the net early for the Scots.
Burlingame 3, Sequoia 0
After heading into the halftime lockers tied at zero apiece, the Panthers (1-0 PAL Bay, 7-2) would explode for three second-half goals to top the Ravens (0-1, 2-5-2). For the Panthers, Dylan Rossen, Sammy Faham and Altaj Ordubadi all found the back of the net while Rossen also added an assist on his afternoon.
Aragon 1, Menlo Atherton 0
One Marcelo Cruz strike was all the Dons (1-0 PAL Bay, 6-1-2 overall) needed to squeak out a road victory over the Bears (0-1, 5-4-2). Aragon has now won three straight by a combined tally of 10-2 as they’ll look ahead to Half Moon Bay on Friday to keep their early-season hot streak alive.
Woodside 4, Capuchino 0
The Wildcats (1-0 PAL Ocean, 4-5-1 overall) did all their damage in the first half over the Mustangs (0-1, 3-4) on Wednesday afternoon scoring all four goals before halftime. Justin Galvez recorded a hat trick for the Wildcats as they’ve now gone three straight games not allowing a goal while scoring six, seven, and four goals respectively.
Hillsdale 3, Jefferson 1
Thanks to an impressive evening from Hillsdale’s (1-0 PAL Ocean, 4-4-1 overall) Christopher Lopez in which he tallied a goal and an assist, the Knights were able to take down the Grizzlies (0-1, 2-3-1) to begin league play on a high note. For Jefferson, Gabriel Torroza found the back of the net for the teams lone goal.
Westmoor 1, Mills 0
Just one goal was needed to decide the Rams’ (1-0 PAL Lake, 3-4 overall) victory over the Vikings (0-1, 0-8) on Wednesday evening. Manuel Castellon Flores would be that lone goal scorer for Westmoor as they shook off two straight crushing defeats to get in the win column to begin league play.
Terra Nova 1, El Camino 1
After the Tigers (0-0-1 PAL Lake, 3-3-1 overall) crawled ahead early in the first half, El Camino’s (0-0-1, 4-4-2) Estiven Chacon would knot the game at one apiece with a late penalty kick. After starting the year 4-0, however, El Camino hasn’t won a match since December 4 while Terra Nova now finds itself on a three-game winless streak themselves.
Menlo School 3, King’s Academy 2
Menlo scored three first-half goals and then had to weather a second-half King’s rally to pull out the WBAL victory.
Eric Schmidtke scored twice for Menlo (2-0 WBAL, 4-1-3 overall), with Alex Boesch opening the scoring for Menlo.
Priory 5, Pinewood 2
Priory scored three times in the first half and tacked on two more in the second to beat Pinewood in a WBAL match.
Jack Nuttal scored a pair of second-half goals to lead Priory, while JJ Lehman had a goal and two assists. Ethan Zhang and Noah Dawson each had a goal and an assist for Priory.
