West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division champion Sacred Heart Prep is San Mateo County’s highest seeded team in the CIF Northern California regional volleyball playoffs, with brackets announced Sunday.
Nor Cal tournaments across all divisions open play Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
With no county teams qualifying for the CIF Open Division tournament, the Gators are primed to play in Division I. Seeded No. 11, SHP opens on the road, traveling to No. 6 Campolindo-Moraga. The Gators are coming off a deep run in last year’s CIF Nor Cal playoffs, advancing to the Division II semifinals as the No. 12 seed, including opening the 2024 tourney with back-t0-back road wins at Lincoln-SF and Del Oro-Loomis, before running up against the No. 1 seed and eventual state champion San Ramon Valley-Danville.
In Division II, Aragon and Menlo-Atherton will each play host Tuesday. Aragon is coming off a Central Coast Section Division II championship, and draws the No. 6 seed to host No. 11 St. Mary’s-Stockton. Menlo-Atherton, runner-up in CCS Division I, is the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa.
In Division III, Sequoia earned the No. 1 seed and a bye through Tuesday’s opening round. The Ravens will host Thursday at 6 p.m. against the winner of No. 8 Bullard-Fresno and No. 9 Hughson. Burlingame earned the tourney’s No. 4 seed, and will host Tuesday against No. 13 Lowell-SF.
In Division IV, Summit Shasta in the county’s lone representative. The CCS Division V champion Black Bears earned the No. 7 seed, and will host No. 10 University Prep-Redding.
Nor Cal play is a four-round tourney, with the regional championships set for Tuesday, Nov. 18. Nor Cal champions in the Open Division and divisions I through V earn an additional fifth CIF match at the state championship tournament, held at Santiago Canyon College in Orange, Nov. 21-22.
