Brianna Lopiccolo, Capuchino softball. The junior catcher punctuated a big week for the Lady Mustangs, and pitcher Lily Thomas. With her junior hurler totaling 19 2/3 innings through three games last week, including a perfect game Tuesday against Aragon, Lopiccolo saved Thomas any more wear and tear by delivering a game-winning swing in a 10-7 extra-inning victory at the King’s Academy-Sunnyvale. With the bases loaded in eighth, produced a bases-clearing three-run triple to right, capping a 3-for-5, four-RBI day. She finished the week 5 for 11 with six RBIs, and also called her own pitches in Thomas’ perfect game.
Jayden Jiang, Mills boys’ volleyball. The senior hitter helped lead the Vikings to a 2-1 record last week, averaging just under 15 kills per match. His biggest output came in a five-set loss to Westmoor, during which Jiang had 24 kills. He had 13 kills, three service aces and seven digs in a sweep of Sequoia and followed that with a 17-kill, 12-dig performance in a 3-1 win over El Camino.
Elia Choe, Menlo School girls’ lacrosse. The senior opened WBAL play with a big performance in Menlo’s 17-4 win over St. Francis. Choe totaled seven goals on eight shots, including a laser to end the third quarter, and added six assists, two ground balls and one caused turnover. The 13-point day put her over the 300 mark career wise, as she now has 307 career points.
Michael Lackey and Jesus Olivas, San Mateo baseball. The duo factored into the Bearcats’ sweep of South City. In the opener, an 8-3 win, Lackey’s three-run home run to left was the icing on the cake of a five-run uprising in the sixth inning that broke a 3-all tie. In Friday’s series finale in South City, Olivas was masterful on the mound. He pitched a complete game, allowing one run while scattering five hits, striking out six and walking only two.
Daniela Cuadros, Carlmont girls’ track and field. The Lady Scots took third place at the Mt. SAC Relays, a high-profile statewide meet held Saturday at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut. Cuadros led the charge. The senior anchored the girls’ 4x800 meter relay team to a second-place finish in 9:09.78, the second best time in CCS this season. She then rattled off a personal record in the girls’ 3,200, taking ninth place in 10:49.66, the top time in the PAL this season, and seventh in CCS.
Lucas Rowe, Carlmont tennis. The Scots’ No. 1 singles player moved within one match of an undefeated PAL Bay Division campaign with two more wins last week. He opened the week with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Menlo-Atherton and capped it with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Mills. Through 11 Bay Division matches, Rowe has won all 11 in straight sets and has lost only five games.

Kylie Cox, Menlo-Atherton softball. The senior catcher helped the Bears to a pair of lopsided wins. A 16-1 win over Sequoia opened the week, during which Cox went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Two days later in a 14-6 win over Notre Dame-Belmont, Cox was 3 for 5 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Aaron Minton, Serra baseball. The junior outfielder helped the Padres get out of a WCAL funk as they snapped a four-game league losing streak with a 9-2 win Friday over Bellarmine. And it was Minton who had the highlight hit — a fourth-inning grand slam that turned a 3-2 lead into a 7-2 advantage.
Lola Jones, Hillsdale softball. The junior pitcher went toe-to-toe with King’s Academy strikeout artist Katia Nesper and it was Jones who came away with a 3-2 win. Jones went the distance, scattering six hits while allowing two runs, striking out five along the way. She also helped her own cause at the plate, going 1 for 2 with an RBI. Jones was also 1 for 3 in a 2-1 win over Mills.
Benicio Labuguen, Westmoor boys’ track and field. The senior jumper has been building all season, and put forth his best triple jump Saturday at the CCS Top 8 Invitational at Los Gatos High. Labuguen recorded a personal record 47-5. Not only did the jump land him atop the podium with a first-place finish in Los Gatos, it skyrocketed Labuguen to the best triple jump in CCS this season. He also showed off his sprint speed earlier in the week, winning the 100 meter dash at a PAL tri-meet in 11.18, matching his PR.
Morgan Winfield, Sequoia baseball. Sequoia’s star slugger has done it again. It was March 12 when Winfield hit his first grand slam of the season, a booming shot to left field in the bottom of the eighth-inning to deliver an 11-7 walk-off win in extra innings. Saturday, the senior did it again, connecting for a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the seventh to send the Ravens to a 6-5 victory at Monte Vista Christian-Watsonville. The St. Mary’s College commit is now slashing .419/.557/.907 on the year, while his six home runs rank third in the Central Coast Section.
Nisha Mehta, Sequoia softball. The Ravens’ leadoff hitter fronted an 18-3 blowout win of Terra Nova, going 2 for 3 with a double and a season-high four RBIs. What was extraordinary about the performance, though, was it prolonged a 30-game hitting streak for Mehta, a streak that began over a year ago, March 4, 2025, with a 1-for-4 day against Los Altos. The senior has now hit safely in each of Sequoia’s 12 games this year, and is leading the PAL Ocean Division with a .622 batting average.
