Jerry Williams, Menlo-Atherton boys’ basketball. The junior forward helped the Bears to the brink of the PAL Bay Division title with two wins last week. He opened with 19 points in a 61-51 win over Hillsdale. In a 73-46 win over Jefferson, Williams scored a season-high 28 points.
Ava Mendoza, Terra Nova girls’ wrestling. The stage was set at the PAL girls’ wrestling championships Saturday at Woodside as Mendoza squared off with Half Moon Bay’s Katheryne Abramenko. Not only do the two wrestle for rival schools, both were reigning 2024 PAL finalists and Central Coast Section medalists. With the two now wrestling in the same 132-pound division, Mendoza emerged to claim her first PAL championship, earning a pin in the second round.
Bernardo Chaparro, Hillsdale boys’ soccer. The first-place Fighting Knights stayed perfect in PAL Ocean Division play last week with a pair of wins, and Chaparro was front and center on the attack. The junior recorded one goal in Hillsdale’s 2-0 win over Half Moon Bay, then returned to score twice more in a 3-1 victory over Mills. The latter was the first multi-goal performance of his varsity career.
Jefriel Baccoro, Mills boys’ basketball. The senior hard arguably the best two-game totals of anyone in the PAL this season. He scored nearly half his teams points, 30, in a 78-65 loss to Terra Nova. Against Oceana, he stayed hot, scoring 29 points in 57-36 victory.
Kaitlyn Schuh, San Mateo girls basketball. Half of the Bearcats’ “Twin Towers,” Schuh helped bring San Mateo to the precipice of the PAL Ocean Division title. In a 38-33 win over Oceana, the sophomore had 18 points. She ended the week with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 60-35 win over Terra Nova.
Niko Selianitis, Michael Schliewe and Jhey Sarique, El Camino boys’ wrestling. While the Colts settled for fourth place in the PAL boys’ wrestling championships team standings, no team earned more individual first-place finishes Saturday at Woodside. Of the first four finals of the day, El Camino won three of them. Selianitis won the 108s championship with a first-round pin of Carlmont’s Gabriel Osorio, Schliewe claimed the 122s championship with a first-round pin of Carlmont’s Alexander Virnich, and Sarique finished off the trifecta by taking home the title at 128s with a 4-2 decision over Carlmont’s Brandon Osorio.

Caleb Oliveras, El Camino boys’ soccer. The senior keeper has been on his game, and how, as it has been nearly two months since El Camino has surrendered a goal. Oliveras anchored another last week with the Colts rolling 2-0 against Westmoor. He now has nine shutouts on the season, including a perfect slate through six PAL Lake Division matches. El Camino closes out the regular season this week with matchups against Terra Nova and Capuchino, with Oliveras attempting to record a perfect Lake Division season.
Matthew Norris, Sacred Heart Prep boys’ basketball. The senior big man is coming on strong at the end of the season, even as the Gators limp to the finish of the regular season. He opened a three-game week with 12 points and six rebounds in a 67-58 win over rival Menlo School. In a 66-47 loss to King’s Academy, Norris filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. He capped his week with 18 points and five rebounds in a 57-51 loss to Carmel.
Jewel Wilson, Design Tech girls’ basketball. The senior guard helped the Dragons to three wins in PSAL Bay Division last week. She opened with 17 points and four rebounds in a 46-30 win University Prep Academy-SJ, followed it with 13 points and five rebounds in a 46-32 win over Nueva School and capped her week with a double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 58-20 win over BISV.
Serra boys’ wrestling. After clinching the WCAL team crown with a win over Bellarmine Wednesday, the Padres took the mat again Saturday in the WCAL championships and came home with six individual titles. Elliott Schnelker and Preston Dixon each won their second straight WCAL crown at 165 and 215, respectively. First-time WCAL champs included Ryder Doleschal (106), Patrick Turk (140), Sebastian Garcia (144) and Trevor Wilson (heavyweight). In all, the Padres qualified wrestlers in all 14 classes for the CCS Northern regional tournament Saturday.
Samantha Bishop, Carlmont girls’ soccer. Carlmont’s starting goalkeeper has split time with senior Gabriela Cole this season, but it is Bishop who typically anchors the cage in the first half. Her shutdown performances have set the stage for a first-place Lady Scots team that has yet to surrender a goal in PAL Ocean Division play. Carlmont is 8-0 in the Ocean with two matches to play, and Bishop has anchored a 43-0 scoring differential in those games. And, while last Friday’s matchup against South City was postponed, the game was played Monday, with Bishop playing the entire 80 minutes to earn the shutout in the Scots’ 4-0 victory.
