The Redwood City man accused of breaking into an ex-girlfriend's home to install wiretaps on her phone was sentenced yesterday to eight months in jail and three years probation.
Eric Kolstad, 32, pleaded no contest to one count of wiretapping in return for no more than eight months in jail and the dismissal of other charges. Kolstad received credit for 159 days served since his arrest.
He reportedly stalked the woman from January until her new boyfriend caught him underneath the house at the end of March. Kolstad was arrested March 29 on charges of stalking, wiretapping, violating a restraining order and first-degree burglary.
Kolstad entered the woman's Redwood City home and also placed a recorder outside her bedroom window, police reported. When Kolstad allegedly went underneath the East Bayshore Road home to install wiretaps on her phone lines, the woman's new boyfriend spotted him and contacted police. Kolstad was found roaming the streets shortly after 2 a.m. wearing black clothes and a black beanie.
