The strength of our democracy has been greatly diminished again and we need to reverse this trend or we’ll lose our democracy. The selection of Brett Kavanaugh as one of our nine Supreme Court justices is the latest undermining of our constitutional democracy.
Our democracy can only succeed when the vast majority of citizens trust each other and trust that the system will be fair and respectful. This is particularly important for the court since the justices are typically there for decades. This great power given to a few people must only be given to judges of the highest qualifications who the vast majority of people feels will be fair, nonpolitical, honest and just. Judge Kavanagh’s testimony showed a person who is very political and a bit paranoid. He simply can’t be trusted and trust in the court will be greatly diminished.
His nomination is by a president who lost the popular vote due to our electoral college system that has selected two of our last three presidents. Further the Senate refused to vote on Merrick Garland’s nomination. The Republicans removed the filibuster for Supreme Court justices. All these actions weaken trust in democracy.
Meanwhile, we all need to look at how to elect better people to Congress and the presidency so that we can start to work together for the common good rather than trying to force a “win” for one side that weakens our democracy. As Benjamin Franklin said, we have “A republic, if you can keep it.”
Sounds like your pretty sore about a lot of things Kenneth, first Trump now Kavanaugh. Those on the right who are absolutely giddy right now with all this winning we are doing, learned everything we need to know by Obama and how he got his healthcare bill through and Harry Reid who controlled the senate like a dictator. Our system is working perfectly and if that bums you out, that is just the way it is going to have to be. Elections have consequences, we hold the administration, senate, house and the judiciary. I see a huge need for therapists for all those distraught on the left, it is clear they need some time together and a hug. Time for the rest of us to put our collective foot on the gas and keep it going. Good luck with your sad feelings and I hope you feel better soon, we on the other hand are very happy in the direction of our country is going and full speed making America great again. Off to the midterms to win those as well.
Sounds like you may want to go to your safe space, preferably a very cold environment so that you don't melt. If you’re tired of winning, vote for a Democrat. It sounds like you’re tired of losing, so maybe you should vote Republican. People like Harris and Feinstein are embarrassments to California.
Oh, and Trump is taller than Clinton, so he wins the vertically-challenged contest. So what? Well, I’m just using an argument to counter your popular vote logic. Both have nothing to do with the price of rice in China, or in determining the President.
