Editor,

Regarding the “Bullet train uncertainty for Millbrae” article by Austin Walsh in the Feb. 22, 2019, edition, I have to side with Gov. Gavin Newsom. The brakes definitely need to be applied to the whole idea of a bullet train that will only benefit a small portion of the taxed public part of the time. The bullet train will not really impact the city of Millbrae because most of the people will not be getting off the train in Millbrae.

And of course, don't forget the Boondoggle Bay Bridge, which took 10+ years $6.4 billion (and counting) to build - still saddled with potential structural integrity issues. And that was for only half a bridge. We've paid for that boondoggle with our taxes, and even then, the ongoing tolls keep going up. Maybe Newsom will put together a panel at a taxpayer cost of at least $1 million to take your idea into consideration. Actually, since Newsom is taking jobs away from unions with the canceling of the low speed rail, Newsom may need to find another union giveaway, and your idea may do the trick. Be prepared for the inevitable tax increases needed to pay for it, though.

How much climate change and environmental damage has been done so far by High Speed Rail in our state. Not to mention the wasting of billions of dollars not just of California tax payer money but also the entire nation. Nice carbon footprint left by this boondoggle, keep it up Democrats, your incompetence is monumental.
