Editor,

This letter is in response to Michael Brownrigg’s letter to the editor “Regional Measure 3” (published in the May 14 edition of the Daily Journal). You indicate that “There are no free lunches and no free State Route 92 fixes.” I agree with that statement, but why is it OK to place the burden of all these so called “improvements” in the Bay Area on the backs of only those who have to commute across the bridges?

I voted yes on Measure 3 because it provides funding for valuable transportation projects such as the extension of Caltrain to downtown San Francisco. The best solution for traffic congestion is to make public transportation a better way to get to work than clogging the highways with one person per car. Have you tried carpooling? Your statement that you have to commute across the bridge because you cannot afford to live in San Mateo County brings up the issue of the imbalance between jobs and housing on the Peninsula. We need a lot more housing close to jobs and transportation, including the Concar Passage project in San Mateo.
