Maybe you should take your own advice and get out. I bet your pets wouldn't even miss you. I know from experience - from brining your dog back to your house multiple times on Bayview. You have proven to be too immature to coexist with the other side of the aisle for the greater good of the people. There is no middle ground with you - and you think that's good for politics? If you took you own advice - then we wouldn't have to hear you screeching like a petulant little school girl that hates her parents and acts out because she wants attention. CNN reported that 5% of American voters consider the DC Jan. 6 riot their biggest memory of Donald Trump's first term. I'm guessing that percentage includes you.

This week, Sen. Klobuchar (D-MN) remarked that police officers were killed during the DC Jan. 6 riots. That violence didn't happen either...

Mark, you lament the 77 million American voters who felt electing Donald Trump was the sensible thing to do. It was absolutely sensible. It would have been insensible to elect Kamala "Not a thing comes to mind" Harris.

Joe (described as a "stubborn old man" by an Obama speechwriter) released an op-ed about Jan. 6 that was probably intended, in part, to provide cover for pardoning his son and moving to stop offshore oil drilling. What's next? Bestowing a Presidential Medal of Freedom to a billionaire who helped fund the election of progressive soft-on-crime district attorneys around the country?

So, Ray, because only 5% consider 1/6 one of their memories of Trump's first term, all should forget about it? That violence and deaths did not happen? The right would lead us to believe it was just folks using their first amendment rights to peaceful protest – just another day in the park – move along here. Facts are pesky things. 1/6 did happen for all to see, and it was shameful, disgusting, and yes, unpatriotic. It was especially gratifying that yesterday, 1/6 reverted to normal procedure to certifying the results of the past election, with VP Harris showing class in providing over the peaceful transition of power.

No one said we should forget about the DC Jan. 6 riot. I have said many times in these pages that anyone who broke the law in DC on that day should be held accountable and prosecuted. I'm sure we agree on that point.

However, the perspective that Jan. 6 was the greatest threat to our democracy since the Civil War or that the Jan. 6 riot can be compared to Pearl Harbor or the Holocaust really does defy logic. We agree again... facts can be pesky things... and the pesky facts do not support comparisons of Jan. 6 to the Civil War, WWII or the Holocaust.

BTW... how many police officers were killed during the Jan. 6 riot?

So, Ray, you are very literal on interpretations. Who suggested anywhere on these pages that 1/6 was the equivalent of the Civil War, Pearl Harbor, or the Holocaust? However, the right's frequent attempts to sweep the day under the rug like it didn't happen, or blame it on the FBI, Pelosi, or whatnot are very much in evidence. The attempts to minimalize the day are far more egregious than the attempts to hyperbole.

Nice deflection on the police officers. A better question is, how many police officers died as a result of 1/6? How many were seriously injured?

Whoa! You’re not suggesting that several DJ readers who lean left have not described the events on Jan. 6 as the greatest threat to our democracy? You have not heard me trying to sweep what happened under the rug. I think my position re: holding Jan. 6 participants accountable does not minimize what happened. Check Joe’s op-ed on Monday. He exhorts Americans to never forget that our democracy was put to the test. He’s right… we should not forget. He’s wrong… our democracy was not teetering on collapse.

Let me know what your research says about deaths on Jan. 6. It looks like two Trump supporters had heart attacks and a third died from a drug OD. The only homicide on Jan. 6 was the death of a Trump supporter shot by a Capitol Police officer. No USCP officers died at the Jan. 6 riot, however, upon returning to his division office, Officer Brian Sicknick died of natural causes (stroke) not blunt trauma as initially reported. Three days after the riot, Officer Howard Liebengood committed suicide. Several days after Officer Liebengood’s death, Officer Jeffrey Smith committed suicide. There was some dispute over whether the suicides should be considered line of duty deaths. They were ultimately determined to be service related deaths. There should not have been a question...

I give you credit for not referring to an “insurrection” since we all know it was Pelosi’s dereliction of duty which allowed it to occur. BTW, if you want to watch the next four years (maybe more) from a safe distance, move out of the USA, as Mr. van Ulden has suggested. I’m quite sure many folks won’t miss you, although I would. Until then, my advice, “Deal with it.”

Yes, Mark, did you also notice there have been no hue and cry over a rigged election nor various lawsuits filed for same, since the election? Nor have there been attempts to arrange for alternate electors in the states by Biden or Harris. January 6 will always be an embarrassing stain on our democracy and will forever show Trump to be a sore loser no matter how many wins he gets from henceforth.

Rel-ly? Perhaps you missed the memo (undoubtedly on purpose) but Pelosi admitted responsibility for her dereliction of duty in failing to protect the Capitol. If you can’t get that right, how can we believe anything you write? Congrats on being part of the 5% but as per my advice to your buddy, markolbert, you need to learn to “Deal with it.” Your 1/6 is and continues to be a nothingburger, as voters have shown. 21 men, woman and children were killed in the BLM riots that seized city centers and caused a $1bil in damage to private, state and Federal buildings with almost no condemnation for any Democrats politician.
