Just a quick heartfelt thank you for reprinting the Rev. Jim Mitulski’s piece in the Thursday Dec. 28, edition. It was a lovely piece sharing thoughts and reflections about Pope Frances “shift[ing] the rules regarding the honoring of LGBTQ[+] relationships in the Roman Catholic church.”
I love seeing affirming, uplifting stories about my beloved LGBTQ+ in the Daily Journal. On that note, I super appreciate you all giving a regular column to Craig Wiesner. I love reading his pieces, too.
Please keep up the good work giving a spotlight to the voices within the LGBTQ+ community (including our allies and advocates) because representation matters.
Finally, the Pope changed his mind! It is primarily thanks to religious hang-ups that we have had this insane LGBTQ+ hate. Well, good to se that even a religious dictator like the Pope can change his mind, if ever so slowly. Why do so many let themselves be dictated, - especially when others are negatively affected by the nonsense?
Dear Jorg - disagreement is not synonymous with hate. You clearly do not understand Cannon Law and most Roman Catholics disagree with this Pope on the issue and shall not be dictated to even though he is the Pope. But, you have found another friend in your world of admirers. Congratulations.
So Jorg - if something does not personally affect you, don't worry about it unless one is immature? The killings in Israel and the Sudan do not personally affect me but I do care. Perhaps because I am immature? You want to take back your off-the-wall comment?
Of curse, Dirk, people getting hurt, like in Sudan, has enormous impact on me! What a sick example to bring up when we are talking about different life styles that shouldn't be anybody else's business. Get it now?
Jorg - the Roman Catholic Church just does not recognize same sex marriages which is the Church's prerogative and it is consistent with the faith. Neither do Islam, many Baptists and and several factions of the Church of England. The RC Church does not hate different lifestyles and welcomes all to attend church services as are all sinners. The Church should not be shamed into blessing them and the Pope is skating on very thin ice. If that community does not like it, get out! Besides, what do you care as it does not personally affect you either. Do you now get it?
You still don't get it, Dirk! I feel sorry for those affected, and when it comes to the LGBTQ+ people, they are very much affected, even pursued and killed, - and that affects me. Greatly! You don't care at all?
"Most Roman Catholics disagree with this Pope on the issue"...really? Please direct me to reliable, non-bias sources which will confirm your statement. Thanks.
FFIG - you are probably not a Roman Catholic. If you were to obtain your news from international sources, meaning outside the highly biased Bay Area, you would learn that most clergy do not agree with the Pope. It is not in our nature to disagree with the Vatican as Popes have historically stayed away from such controversial issues. High level clergy in Africa, South America and in North America have issued directives that the Pope's decision can be ignored. You would never gather that from the SF Chronicle of course. Our Archbishop is a bright light in this otherwise go with the flow crowd.
Dirk: Anyone so insanely superstitious that they still consider themselves “catholic”, should be ashamed of themselves. Just consider what they have let catholic priests do for hundreds of years, to thousands of innocent children, across the world! Catholics in Germany, supported by the then Pope, were very supportive of Hitler, especially in his extermination of Jews. How much worse can a religion be?

D irk: What is there to "disagree" about, if there is something that doesn't hurt or affect you, unless you chose to let it, for some immature reason?
