Editor,

A big thank you to the many North Central residents who came to the meeting held at Martin Luther King Center, Wednesday, Dec. 4, to discuss the Humboldt bike lane. The meeting had very good attendance and was very enlightening. We thank our new city manager, Alex Khojikian, for listening and assigning our Public Works Director Matt Fabry. And him assigning several different staff personnel to head this issue in North Central, which residents endured for over two years, was much appreciated.

A very good morning to you, Trina

I just knew you were the author of this letter to the editor after I read the first sentence. Thanks for the update about goings on in North Central.

We'll have to grab a cup of coffee soon. Have a blessed Christmas!

The number along North Central just don't add up.

Every house here needs to have 2 garage spots and at least 2 driveway spots for their cars. So the people complaining must have 5-6 cars? That sounds like a lot.

My guess the police isn't enforcing the 72h rule and that is the real issue. Another resident said that the street is full of old clunkers blocking the street.

Car-ownership is lower in this neighborhood than in many others in San Mateo. So this isn't about low-income people with too many cars. This is the HOA around Amo Lee trying to take away bike lanes for children so they can store their private property on public lands. This is a land-grab, this is gentrification - the rich are getting richer.

When you ride a bicycle through that neighborhood it becomes fairly obvious that many garages are full of hoarder-stuff and the driveways are empty. The vehicles are then stored on the street to block others from using public property. That happens always if you make things "free", people will take it and try to take more of it.

They basically "privatized" public property. This is also called "squatting" - and if the squatting was done by homeless people, these HOA people would complain about it. If the residents would store containers full of hoarder-stuff on the street - these residents would complain about it.

It's no surprise that this particular city manager would take away bike lanes from children - Alex Khojikian and his boss Melissa Stevenson Diaz did the same in Redwood City.

The county needs better city managers.
