Strong sustainable policies are needed

We should not elect tone deaf men to positions of power. Don’t we have enough of those as bishops and archbishops? Perhaps being anti-choice won’t have a great effect on the many duties of a city council member, but the backwards idea that taking away a woman’s right to choose will be good for anyone in California is abhorrent. The California bishops’ position on Proposition 1 is semi-psychotic especially when one considers the public health crisis that comes alongside making abortion illegal.

Elaine Salinger sorrowfully points out the dire consequences for poor people in her letter last week. If I lived in District 5, I would vote for Adam Loraine because as a person of faith, I will always vote for the candidate having the strongest vision for sustainable policy — one who rolls back our city’s greenhouse gases, and protects the poor and underserved in society.

Pope Francis in “The Letter,” a film on YouTube, with more than 1.3 million views in the last week, asks us to understand the grave threat to our common home, the interrelationship between faith, who we vote for, economic choices and social and environmental impact. We need politicians who get serious about the most important pro-life issue we face, climate destabilization.
