Editor,
As a former San Mateo-Foster City School District trustee, I’m supporting Charles Stone for San Mateo County supervisor in District 2.
Prior to 2020, I knew Charles only by reputation. Since then, I’ve gotten to know him well. One of the things that impresses me most about him is his ability to actually get things done. I’ve worked with other elected officials who liked to “talk the talk” but when it came time to “walk the walk” and get results, they simply didn’t show up. It has also been nice to see that Charles take ethics seriously and conducts himself as an elected official should.
In contrast, his opponent, Noelia Corzo (with whom I served on the school board,) took the maximum allowable campaign donation from SMFCSD Superintendent Diego Ochoa and then not only participated in Mr. Ochoa’s review process, but made a motion and voted to give him a 15% raise to almost $300,000 a year. I was present at the meeting where the vote occurred. Ms. Corzo never moved to recuse herself from the item and she failed disclose to the public that she had received that donation from Mr. Ochoa. Only Ms. Corzo and Mr. Ochoa know for sure whether there was a quid pro quo, but even if there was not, the appearance of impropriety still undermines the public trust. This is one of the many reasons I’ll be voting for Stone for supervisor and I hope you will be, too.
