It seems perfectly logical to build housing close to the biotech firms and the job rich area in South San Francisco, however, there is a big hole in the plan (“Oyster Point housing plan stirs division” in the Nov. 13 edition of the Daily Journal). To quote Yogi Berra, “If the people don’t want to come, you can’t stop them.”
The younger tech workers that have most of these jobs do not want to live there. For the most part, they are willing to pay more for less and endure the hassles and tough commute to live in San Francisco, with its vibrant neighborhoods. They would rather commute to work, than commute to play. I believe that social engineering will once again prove to be a failure here.
