Editor,
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, Charlie Kirk was murdered while hosting an event at Utah Valley University. A father, son and husband gone because someone didn’t agree with his views.
Is this even America anymore? Charlie started his own business and employed countless people. He toured all over the country, willing to debate anyone with facts, humility and respect. Our values are being lost, and it’s time to change, if it is not too late already.
Both extreme sides of the Democratic and Republican Party are to blame. Their voices are the loudest, but don’t truly reflect the majority of either party. Get out and talk to people and you’ll find most people are in the middle, leaning slightly right or left. Unfortunately, crazies from both sides have taken the alarms given off by these extremists as some sort of call to violent action. America is doomed if the peaceful exchange of ideas is no longer possible. As long as you’re not hurting anyone, you should be able to worship who you want, love who you want and do what you want. That’s the America I want back.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Guttenbeil. I agree with your conclusions but, and let me borrow from Obama and Newsom, let me be clear - although extreme sides of both parties are to blame, the radical left (even those not so extreme) deserves vastly more of the blame. Full stop. One can go to YouTube and review footage of Eric Schmitt’s recent questioning of Kash Patel, Schmitt highlights the violence committed by the left targeting conservatives, Christians, Trump supporters and random citizens. To wit…
Congressional baseball practice shooting
Summer of Love riots
Waukesha Christmas Parade massacre
Lee Zeldin stabbing attempt
Covenant School shooting (Nashville)
Butler, Pennsylvania assassination attempt on Trump
Trump International West Palm Beach assassination attempt
Abundant Life Christian School shooting
United Care CEO’s murder
Tesla firebombing and attacks
Murders at Israeli Embassy
ICE facilities firebombed
Minnesota Catholic school shooting
Anti-white stabbing in Charlotte, NC
Utah News firebombing attempt
Let’s see if Democrats follow your advice but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the small Democrat minority taking the lead and controlling party messages decide to double and triple down on their violent rhetoric. We’ve already seen it. Let’s hope the American people hold them accountable. The folks that hate America have shown us who they are – we should believe them.
