In their Feb. 13 guest perspective, “The womb on trial,” Nanci E. Nishimura and Kelly W. Weil seem to try very hard to make the case for unrestricted abortion in their guest column.
Perhaps their case would be more persuasive if they had devoted a single word to the question: What is it that is destroyed in every abortion?
But perhaps a single word about that would have aborted the rest of their case.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Alioto. Allow me provide a short history of how Dems stand on certain issues… They’re okay with abortion, up to and including birth, which they’d like to spread across the land. They’re okay with Chuck Schumer prioritizing politics over the safety of children. They’re okay with Biden’s COVID plan of allowing people to continue to die. They’re okay with increasing crime rates and releasing criminals into the wild. They’re okay with open borders, leading to more fentanyl and other dangerous drugs to flood our streets. Maybe it’s just me but there appears to be a common theme - Dems appear to be in favor lowering the global population, beginning with America.
Hilarious, FFGig giving us meaningless dribble to accuse someone of meaningless dribble. When FFGig has nothing of value to add, what else can he do? End of discussion.
Forced birth is not a solution. You might think an embryo or a fetus is a person, but it is not. And even if you chose to define it as such, to force people to provide their body parts to sustain another is unethical and illegal. Or at least it used to be illegal--the Supreme Court has ruled that women can be forced to incubate a fetus to term. Even though that puts her life, finances, and career at risk (pregancy is no joke), and even if the fetus will be unable to live more than a few hours past birth.
Wrong again Westy. The Supreme Court reversed its earlier opinion and redirected that responsibility to each state. No mention whatsoever of any forcible incubation measure.
The Supreme Court said that it is okay for states to deny basic human rights to women and force them to continue to incubate a pregnancy against their will.
Against their will? The woman made the decision to have sex. Abortion is not birth control. A soul is created at conception. You are an evil and mentally deranged person.
LittleFoot, If you really believed that a soul is created at conception, it would be much more worth your while to be campaigning against in vitro fertilisation. Do you have any idea how many fertilized embryos are destroyed as part of this process? Instead, you reveal that your real motivation is to punish women for the crime of having sex. Which includes, by the by, children who are raped.
You are so right, Westy! I think it has a lot to do with sex hang-ups and that you shouldn't be able to enjoy something as sinful (!) as that without severe penalties! Easy escape both for women with twisted views, and "men" without much luck with women, - if you know what I mean.
This is a subject too serious for silly jokes! Nor is it a joke for any woman facing abortion. That is a serious situation, with dire consequences for a woman, even a question of life or death for herself, - something too many men seem to have trouble understanding. It is never a “last minute” abortion, as some heartless, dishonest men claim. By far the most abortions are performed because the fetus had no real chance of becoming a functional individual, or that the woman’s life was at risk. That this has become a political game, is both disgusting, and a sign that Republicans have nothing of value to offer, - mixed with hatred from guys without much luck with women.
And, of course, a woman should be in charge of her own body, not some perverted politician!
A woman should not be judged for her reasons to seek an abortion. I’m sure we agree on that point.
You wrote, “By far the most abortions are performed because the fetus had no real chance of becoming a functional individual, or that the woman’s life was at risk."
Not true.
Medical News Today, a pro-science website with high ratings for factual reporting, reported that nearly 1 in 5 women seeking abortions felt they were not emotionally equipped to raise a child, but only 12% said they had abortions due to health concerns for themselves or their unborn fetuses. Far more common reasons included finances, unstable relationships, and needing to care for other children. At a minimum, such reasons indicate we need aggressive contraception education programs for everyone.
Indeed, Ray! I couldn't agree more with your statement: "we need aggressive contraception education programs for everyone". Absolutely! However, the opposite is high on the Republican "To Do" list! They even want to outlaw contraceptives. When will they outlaw Coitus interruptus? Wouldn’t be surprised at all, if they tried that too, not being able to come up with anything that makes sense, - for a change.
Jorg, Yes, exactly. The next step in this insane crusade is to ban contraception methods. They have been working very hard on this. Also, their efforts to ban medical abortions and force people into more risky procedures. People are already suffering severe medical consequences, including death, as a result of this insane crusade.
Here we have the cacophony of Chicken-little Jorg and Westy. Do you guys have nothing else to worry about? Now that Putin has endorsed Biden, perhaps you need a reset in your lives and your diatribes?
Jorg's point that abortion should not be reduced to political bickering is well taken, and Westy is correct about the insanity surrounding the abortion issue. But there is plenty of blame to go around... the right side of the aisle uses its leverage to block common sense legislation, however, over the past 30 years, the left side of the aisle has controlled seven different congressional sessions and did not use its leverage to introduce legislation that would reflect Americans' prevailing belief that abortion should be legal. Most of the insanity on the subject of abortion IMO comes from the extreme left that wants abortion upon request without limitations and the extreme right that wants to ban all abortions.
A large majority of Americans belief that abortion should be legal, and a large majority of Americans also belief that late term abortions should not be legal. Meeting in the middle will not satisfy the extremists... nothing short of fully adopting their point of view will satisfy them. Meeting in the middle is not a compromise solution as most Americans already support a rational approach to abortion.
Interestingly, an item appeared in the NYT today. There is talk from the right side of the aisle about a 16-week national abortion ban, with exceptions in cases of rape, incest or risk to a mother's life. Such a plan is less restrictive than abortion legislation typically found in the EU. It would not satisfy the extremists on either side, but it could make abortion more of a health care issue instead of a political one.
Dirk: I realize it must be difficult for someone like you to grasp what both Westy and I and the vast majority of caring people are concerned about, namely women's obvious right to be in charge of their own body, - instead of leaving that to some guys I suspect try to retaliate because they have had trouble getting lucky with women, - for very obvious reasons, I might add..

Once again, meaningless dribble.

Hello, Jorg

Dirk: Did you swallow blindly Putin's trick to "endorse" Biden? Are you really that naive? Think again!
