Editor,

I am sickened and saddened by Trump’s latest threat to put Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad. A few hours before he had insisted on being the one who protects women, “whether they like it or not.”

We must hope he is soon put behind bars, before he can do more damage. That's where a sleezy criminal and rapist like him belongs!

Ray Fowler

Hello, Jorg

I'm curious. Do you have any thoughts on Maria's LTE?

Jorg

What else is there to say? Maria's words were clear enough, and I agree!

What more do you want me to say?

Btw.: No question what Trump said and meant by "putting Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad", - or something to that effect. What's the problem?

Ray Fowler

Hey, Jorg, thanks for responding.

You wrote, "No question what Trump said and meant by 'putting Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad', - or something to that effect. What's the problem?"

In reverse order... I'll address the "problem."

We shouldn't be surprised that leftist propagandists masquerading as journalists have promoted yet another false narrative. Donald Trump did not say Liz Cheney should face a firing squad. Suggesting that a former Representative known for her pro-war position wouldn't be so pro-war if she had to pick up a rifle and face enemy combatants with rifles simply is not "something to that effect."

There is no question what Trump really said and what he really meant by suggesting a political opponent (Liz Cheney) is waaay too fond of sending America's youth to war.

I'm sure this most recent false narrative will continue to get airplay the same way we have heard over and over again about Charlottesville since 2017. BTW... we last heard it repeated again by Kamala herself just seven weeks ago in Pennsylvania... a battleground state... and that is the "problem."

Check my post responding to Maria's LTE. Do you disagree with Mr. Maher?

Not So Common

Jorg is an ideologue, he has no interest in the truth. he is obviously mentally unstable, a hate monger, a liar and he should be jailed if republicans applied the same way of governing as Kamala, Briben and AG Garland

Jorg

VERY well put, NutSo! Except, you misspelled Trump’s name!

MichKosk

Good news, Maria, Trump did not "threaten to put Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad"! His imagined scenario was that Liz (with a rifle in her hand- which wouldn't be the case if she were being executed) would have to go to war herself, rather than just sending American soldiers to die in foreign conflicts. This used to be a common Democrat talking point- warmonger politicians with no skin in the game being cavalier with American lives.

Everyone knows I'm not a huge Trump fan but the lies and twisting of what he actually says by mainstream media are beyond ridiculous. Even CNN ended up apologizing for this one.

Ray Fowler

I agree with you, MK.

avidreader

Thank you for adding context to help Maria understand that certain media sources don't give the whole story

Ray Fowler

Thank you. I feel we have an obligation to call out such disinformation.

Westy

Pretzel. It is Ex-president Bone Spurs who is cavalier with lives. Women are dying in hospital parking lots. And he mocks the military every chance he gets.

Ray Fowler

Westy... from Alabama with unreasonable abortion restrictions to Minnesota with virtually no abortion restrictions and every other state in between... where will you find any... any... case law or statutory law prohibiting medical care for a woman in medical distress due to pregnancy.

MichKosk

I know it is hard to stay on the subject with the TDS brain but none of that, even if true has anything to do with misunderstanding or purposely misconstruing what Trump said about Liz Cheney, which had nothing to do with "putting her in front of a firing squad".

Not So Common

Westy, rather than whining you should be celebrating. Last year the United States aborted more babies than any year prior to 2012, 1,026,700 to be exact. Please stop with your rhetoric, fake facts, and lies or go inform yourself. This is from the leftist group NPR and Guttmacher Institute a research organization that supports access to abortion.

Good morning, Maria

Donald Trump says things in a way that are undoubtedly cringeworthy, and he does so to his own detriment. When a statement a little less bombastic might help him advance a position on policy, all we remember is the bombast.

I appreciate everyone who takes the time to submit an LTE, but can you explain why you believe Donald Trump threatened “to put Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad”? Where did you hear this?

Donald Trump called Liz Cheney a deranged person and radical war hawk before saying, “Let’s put her with a rifle, standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. Okay? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face. You know they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, ‘Oh, gee, well, let’s send, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.’” MichKosk is correct… that doesn’t sound anything like a firing squad.

Bill Maher… who absolutely opposes all things Trump made several comments about Trump’s remarks concerning Liz Cheney on his show “Real Time” last Friday. They included, "I woke up today to the headline that Trump had called for a firing squad for Liz Cheney. And this is what I really don't like about the media. No, he didn't… Just don't lie to me. I don't like Donald Trump. Don't lie to me and tell me he wants her in front of a firing squad.”

No one is going put an M4 rifle in Liz Cheney’s hands and insert her into battle. You know who else will not be toting an M4 around the battlefield? Tim Walz.

Westy

Ray, sadly all TFG has is bombast, bile, threats, insults, and promises to dismantle democracy. When someone tells you who they are believe them. He is an adjudicated rapist, self-admitted sexual assaulter, and convicted felon who most of the people who served in his administration have identified as a danger to our country.

Ray Fowler

Trump is someone "who most of the people who served in his administration have identified as a danger to our country"? Is there source behind that claim?

Not So Common

Jorg is the source : )

Jorg

Not the original source, NutSo! The original source was from someone who had worked very closely with Trump! I never have, and never will!

Not So Common

Jorg, get a sense of humor, my reply to Ray, (you being the source) was a joke. On another note, I hope your Fårikål isn't too salty after a day of tears because I'm sure yesterday was a tough day for you. From the side of truth and democracy, it was a glorious day now that the democrats have been shown the door.

Not So Common

Why does the SMDJ Editors print an LTE which is 100% blatantly false, misleading and taken out of context? Jon? And please answer in front of everyone.

Not So Common

Thanks Jon, you’re silence is compelling, no more hiding between your lines

Jorg

Is there any other way to interpret what Trump said about Liz Cheney?

"She’s a radical war hawk! Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face."

MichKosk

You know Jorg, you don't have to mindlessly parrot every idiocy that comes out of your party. It is Ok to admit you/they got something wrong. In this case, please read the full quote that Ray posted. And explain why Liz would have a rifle herself if she were facing a firing squad? Also use the google, even liberals are admitting they got this wrong: "Political analyst Jonah Goldberg retracted comments made during a Friday CNN appearance in response to former President Trump’s criticism of former Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-Wyo.) foreign policy."

Westy

It’s an exact quote! It’s on tape! How else would you interpret it?? Aren’t you getting tired of the pretzel act?

Ray Fowler

It's not an exact quote. I posted the quote yesterday at 8:33 am. Care to comment on Bill Maher's reaction to the left's misquote?

MichKosk

This is so tiresome. I already explained in my comment Ray posted the "exact quote" which clearly had nothing to do with a firing squad (for the third time, why would Liz have a rifle herself if she were facing a firing squad? That and the bigger context about being a warmonger should be a clue.) Jonah Goldberg from CNN apologized for getting it wrong. Bill Maher thought it was ridiculous. TDS is a strong drug, I get it, it damages brains so they can't reason or think clearly.

Ray Fowler

Hi, MK

I cannot take credit for comparing Liz Cheney's war hawkishness to Creedence Clearwater Revival's song, "Fortunate Son." Others have already made the comparison. Frrm the third verse:

Yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes

They send you down to war

And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?"

They only answer, "More, more, more."

It fits.

Terence Y

Great response, MichKosk. It’s as if Jorg, Maria and Westy have no clue what a firing squad is. Perhaps they’ve all been watching too many reruns of The Apprentice and when Trump says, “You’re fired!” Jorg, Maria, and Westy think this is the firing squad Trump is referring to. I wonder if Amazon has a Trump bobblehead which says, “You’re fired!” A perfect gift for these three folks to soothe their hysterical screeching.

Dirk van Ulden

OK Jorg - now that Trump has overwhelmed your candidate, let's bury the hatchet and move on. I can imagine Terrence's joy which he snatched from Kamala's campaign. It is time for a friendly cup of coffee. I am buying.

Terence Y

Dirk, I like your optimism but if Jorg hasn’t been able to bury the hatchet for most of this past decade, what makes you think Jorg can bury it now? Maybe I can be proven wrong... Speaking of optimism, we can all be more optimistic but I’m betting there are a number of folks that still won’t be, even as their lives will be better than the past 4 years. How can it not? On the other side of the coin, all of the sudden, the folks that were willfully ignoring everything Biden/Harris will stop ignoring everything our great(er) President Trump will do. BTW Jorg, if you’re reading this, how are those popular vote numbers looking for Trump?

Jorg

Just make the arrangement, - I'll be there!

Ray Fowler

Hey, Dirk

I'll email you so we can set something up. I met Jorg in person a couple of weeks ago at the lunch arranged by Mark Simon. I enjoyed meeting him... same can be said for Mike C and Rel.

Dirk van Ulden

All - let's just pray that folks like Maria are not allowed to vote.

Westy

Yes, because democracy is sooooo overrated.

Last November, in the middle of the debate over creating a civilian oversight committee for the Sheriff's Office, I suggested that county voters should decide whether we need such a commission. Another DJ reader replied... "Ballot initiatives are horrible way to enact laws. A system that funnels lots of issues, both big and small, directly to the voters leads to bad policy judgments, because under-informed voters don’t have time to research and form opinions on all the issues." Gosh... maybe democracy is sooooo overrated. "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others." - "Animal Farm, Chapter 10.

Dirk van Ulden

Westy - ignorance is no virtue.

Jorg

What does that have to do with Westy? Don't you think she knew that?

DavidKristofferson

My congratulations to the conservative side, even though I am sorely disappointed in the outcome. Clearly, inflation and the mess at the southern border overrode Trump’s character concerns in the minds of the majority of voters, and now we will find out if they were correct in that judgment.

As I mentioned several times earlier, I was worried that Kamala Harris was a weak candidate for the Democrats, and the election results quickly bore this out. We have now seen the results of both Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Joe Biden holding on too long to office, and I hope that Donald Trump does not give us a third example. Biden should have bowed out after one term and allowed the Democrats to have a contested primary.

This campaign has been consumed with over-the-top rhetoric, but now we will have to wait and see how extreme Trump gets with his actual actions. As he said at his victory speech last night, his motto will be “Promises made, promises kept.”

Dirk van Ulden

David - we will be OK. I am still astounded that the DNC allowed such a poor choice as their candidate. There are plenty of competent Democrats out there who would have been more inspiring than Harris ever was. Frankly, like many others, I voted against Harris as I believe that she was just a puppet for the machine which got us into much trouble over the past 3.5 years. And as a few have already said, Trump's bark is far worse than his bite. He will have a better team around him this time as well.

DavidKristofferson

I hope you are right, Dirk. Only time, not our opinions here, will tell…

Terence Y

Thanks for your sentiments, DavidKristofferson, and your listing of the main issues of why folks voted for Trump. The congratulations should be directed to America and especially the Hispanic voters, black voters, Jewish voters, Arab voters, and everyone else who voted for Trump because they preferred Trump’s policies over that of the flawed Harris candidate. If folks are disappointed, which I doubt, they can place a vote for JD Vance’s opponent in 4 years. I wonder whether there will be statistics on voter turnout here in California and in other states.

Ray Fowler

David, thank you for your honest appraisal... said graciously. You and I agree that neither candidate was the best choice. Some MAGA types... based on his first term... say Trump has been our greatest president. I don't think they have the data to support that claim... I'd like to see it. However, Trump has the opportunity to do some absolutely historic things... positive things... over the next four years. Four years ago... before major news outlets called the 2020 election for Joe Biden, I acknowledged his 2020 victory. I then waited to see how he would govern, and I was ultimately disappointed. Let's give DJT than same chance. It could be historic.

Not So Common

TRUMP WON! I am tired of waiting for the SMDJ to make this monumental moment a headline. BTW, rumor has it the democrat party now want to abolish the "popular vote." Did anyone catch teary eyed Nancy Pelosi : )

MichKosk

Would also be a great time to eliminate the filibuster, which they have been talking about doing for years! :)
