Editor,

Boy, did I love reading Jon Mays’ April 12 column on San Mateo memories. As we seemingly race through time, we can all share our deep roots in this great area by sharing memories. And this reflecting on life as it was will likely continue as we wade into our watery future. Some of my favorite places — the YMCA and Trader Joe’s on Grant, Seal Point Park on Third, Whole Foods Market, San Mateo Event Center and the essential Highway 101 and State Route 92 in the San Mateo/Foster City area — all may be underwater in the coming years. This is according to San Mateo County’s Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment, based on the USGS OCOF study and a mid-level climate change scenario. Check out your own favorite places at http://data.pointblue.org/apps/ocof/cms/index.php?page=flood-map.
