I’ve always believed in making our neighborhoods greener, more connected, and more resilient, and Measure T is a key step toward that vision. To truly prepare for the future, we need affordable housing and smart growth that encourages sustainability — because we all know climate change is here, and we need to adapt.
Measure T is about increasing housing options right here in San Mateo so that more people can afford to stay. It also helps us reduce our reliance on cars by encouraging growth near transit. I’d love to see a San Mateo where more of us are walking, biking and taking transit … enjoying our neighborhoods and connecting with one another without the constant hum of cars driving by. By focusing on density near public transit, we can take a big step toward that reality.
We also have to think bigger about what climate change means for our community. As rising temperatures make parts of the world less livable, people will need new places to call home. San Mateo can be ready for that challenge by creating more housing and embracing our role as a welcoming community.
Measure T isn’t just about housing; it’s about creating a resilient, connected and sustainable city that’s prepared for the future. Let’s work together to make San Mateo a place that’s ready to grow thoughtfully and compassionately. Vote yes on Measure T.
Thanks for your letter, Ms. Kherian, but walking, biking, and taking transit is not convenient for folks in San Mateo or any cities in the Bay Area, unless of course, you have places to go and time is not of the essence. Measure T is a flawed measure. Vote NO on Measure T.
I totally agree with Catherine. Vote Yes on Measure T - I walk and bike as much as I can and our family bikes to school and to work. Measure T helps us get to a vision of a more sustainable San Mateo!
If that works for you and your family, Macqueena, that’s great as it sounds like you’re the exception rather than the rule. As evidenced by the lack of number of pedestrians and cyclists, it doesn’t work with just about everyone else. Vote NO on the flawed Measure T. Don’t worry, I’m sure if this measure fails, folks will get a chance in the near future as a “clone” Measure T will undoubtedly show up again. Developers and special interests have deep pockets.
