What a surprise the developers are raising concerns over the possibility of safeguards to be put in place for the betterment of the community, and not their profit margin (“South City examines inclusionary housing” in the Sept. 12 edition of the Daily Journal).
They’re claiming “the rising cost of development,” and “encouraging council members to exempt projects ... for fear of disrupting an already established budget.” Citing it’s “economically infeasible ... given the astronomical escalation of construction costs the market has experienced.” I believe that’s kind of part of the risks involved when pursuing such projects as a course of your business.
Look at the long saga at the corner of Spruce and El Camino. I’m sorry if your profit margin has been influenced by outside factors, but isn’t that the nature of the game? I encourage the South City Council to hold firm for the quality of life for all.
