Former San Mateo County Supervisor and Controller Tom Huening makes a point about being “more likely to support another transit tax” if it includes a BART extension throughout the county (“BART’s missing link” in the April 2 edition of the Daily Journal).
It also ought to include a commitment by state Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, D-South San Francisco, and other relevant elected officials to amend legislation creating BART in 1958 so as to include San Mateo County in the district. That would have been the case 50 years ago if it hadn’t been for short-sighted shopping center developers who feared San Mateo County residents would flock to Union Square shops and damage their revenue.

Sorry Mr. Kopp, we in San Mateo County do not want to be part of BART. We got it right in 1958 and we don't want it now. Bohannon was right way back then, we have had no crime and violence brought into our county from San Francisco and Oakland and we would like to keep it that way. Also, we don't want BART's never ending need for new taxes.
