I would like to thank our congressional representative, Jackie Speier, for co-sponsoring a recently introduced bill, HR 763 Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act in the House. For years, Speier has been concerned about the sea level rise in San Mateo County due to climate change. We live in the highest-risk county in the state, with 92,000 residents currently living within 3 feet of sea level. HR 763 is a bipartisan, revenue-neutral solution to climate change. It applies a steadily increasing market force to move our economy off carbon fuels. A carbon dividend would be distributed equally to all Americans, more than covering any price increases for most. In supporting a federal fee on carbon, Speier joins George Schultz, Lawrence Summers, Ben Bernanke, Alan Greenspan, Janet Yellen, Paul Volcker, 12 additional chairpersons of the president’s Council of Economic Advisers, and 27 Nobel laureates in economics (Wall Street Journal, Jan. 16, 2019). I’m happy that our representative is ready to roll up her sleeves and work to enact this legislation.
And you wonder why the Congressional approval rating is so low... I'm just glad that we've all made it past the Rapture and Al Gore's end of the world, failed prediction #1. Maybe we should also considerably decrease the population, since this supposed catastrophe has been caused by people. But obviously not here in the USA, since we're going to enact carbon credits. Maybe China or India?
