I was riding south on Highway 101 the evening of Friday, April 19, and saw a tow truck and a police car in hot pursuit. Shortly thereafter, five to six other police cars joined the pursuit and shortly after that at least another 10 police cars from CHP and Redwood City joined in.
Mind you this was rush hour traffic and all these pursuit cars were traveling in the median breakdown lanes at over 70-80 mph.
These reckless and dangerous responses and the recently article in the Chronicle about how many people die in these circumstances makes me wonder what policies should be followed in these situations?
An investigation should be initiated.

John - it appears to me that cops are drawn to accidents or activities like flies to honey. I wonder whether their supervisors are in on it as they themselves climbed up through the ranks.
OK Pacman - you don't think that the plethora of cops is a danger to the rest of the motorists and is over the top? Why are so many agencies involved in a single pursuit? There does not appear to be any coordination among the policing units, just pile on for a piece of the action? Is critiquing the police a third rail?
What you hadn’t seen prior was she had stolen the truck, went to Jack N Box went after innocent people, local police in Redwood City tried to stop her and she drove the tow truck into both police cars wiping them out, she break checked the officer on the freeway took out that police car got a way, robbed a home with a babysitter and child all alone, before she drove to Planet Fitness and attacked a man. We need stop thinking the police are just playing cops and robbers.
It’s unfortunate that people are not staying on top of what’s happening locally. We need to thank these individuals for risking their lives for all of us.
Just Mike - "down to a science" another one of those sciences that brought our country unnecessarily to a stand still? What science are you referring to anyway? There needs to be accountability and someone needs to explain why it took multiple police units for this pursuit while endangering the public.

A nonsensical comment!

Better we investigate why there is so much crime in the Bay Area that it's breaking out onto our freeways..

John -
Law enforcement in San Mateo and existing departments have this down to a science and a concise formula as to when to cut off their persuit.
Lets let those in charge - do their respective jobs.

Why so many police cars in the chase? Don't they have other things to do or watch for?
