Driving across downtown San Mateo on Thursday (April 12), we encountered heavily snarled traffic due to the closure of the block of East Third Avenue closest to El Camino Real. This event was not a public one, however, but a “block chain party” hosted by Tim Draper, and his eponymous “university.”
A web search of this block chain party business reveals grandiose predictions for “a new epoch” that is expressly political in orientation, and specifically focused on electoral influence.
Draper is the same fellow whose highest political ambition is funding an initiative to create two more red states for the “MAGA” crowd to celebrate, and which would have the effect of marginalizing our state of California as the national and world leader it now is.
Why on Earth the administrators of the city of San Mateo would provide support for this event, to promote the speculative business and fringe political interests of this enterprise, truly boggles the mind. What were they thinking?
It is outrageous to think that our civic resources are being monopolized to lend unwarranted legitimacy to such divisive (literally) and expressly political schemes. Please join me in condemning such a use of public resources for this kind of partisan political benefit.
