I read the Daily Journal primarily for local news and dislike the growing trend for political diatribe in letters to the editor.
Most letters appear to come from the far right playbook with an occasional liberal letter allowed in for balance. There are many other media sources for political nastiness, please keep the Journal out of the fray.
The Daily Journal is just about the only newspaper in the Bay Area that presents both side of an issue. But since most papers in the Bay Area are 90% to the left, I can understand the shock of being exposed to other view points. Sometimes the truth hurts.
I would assume that the Editor plays that role. Anything out of bounds or outrageous likely never sees the daylight. Until X was purchased, the DJ was essentially the only publication in this area that printed opposing views. Apparently, she is not comfortable with different opinions and hunkers back to censorship at pre-Musk Twitter.
If Marcyl or anyone else is bothered by certain aspects of the DJ, they can always opt to not read sections that don’t strike their fancy. Better yet, I’d recommend Marcyl and many others sign up for a DJ subscription and make their voice heard on local issues, or any issue. The more the merrier.
As for Renabk’s “request”, we’d better begin censoring all letters which refer to a Jan. 6 insurrection or that promote a COVID “vaccine” that is not a vaccine or that masks work against COVID infections, to name a few. Not only that, there would be an end to all those Trump Derangement Syndrome letters full of fake news and lies. All of these “opinions” don’t have any eyes open to reality. Of course, we’ll also need to have someone be the arbiter of reality; I’ll do it for free.
Thank you for expressing exactly what I’ve been thinking. If a person can’t express their “opinion” without name-calling or at least one eye open to reality, it doesn’t belong here.
So you are advocating for a journalistic publication to stifle the First Amendment because it hurts your feelings? If you want to decide what "belongs here" - you can start your own newspaper - but that would be too much hard work. So much easier to sit on the sidelines and complain. I would also love to know what your definition of "reality" is.

The journal is balanced and fair. They print both sides. Disagree with statement above.

+1 SMDJ is very fair.

What about equally nasty letters from the Right, or those readers who may like either?
Ever thought about skipping those you don’t like, although you might miss informative ones that just might expand your mind?
