Thanks for your LTE and great tip for everyone. Folks should get in the habit of asking for and checking receipts whenever they shop or pay for goods and services.
Many moons ago, I offered to treat a friend to breakfast. When the check arrived at the end our meal, I started looking over the numbers. My friend asked in an incredulous tone... "What are you doing." I replied that I always check the math on receipts. Guess what? There was a $10 error... in the restaurant's favor... on the bill. It was an honest addition mistake, and our server was happy to correct the mistake. After that breakfast, my friend started checking receipts, too. While it was a pencil and paper error, as you pointed out, such errors can still occur in our digital age.
