Editor,

I’m writing as a bicyclist on the Caltrain who has recently learned that the proposed electrified rail cars do not have planned seats within view of the bicycles. As a normal, paranoid-of-bike-theft person who has had four locked bikes stolen (fortunately none on Caltrain,) I neither leave my bike out of sight, nor do most of the other bikers with whom I commute daily from San Mateo to San Francisco. This typically leaves all the bikers jostling with non-bikers for the overhead seats on the old cars, or standing room only. Occasionally, I’m lucky enough to grab a top seat and look down on my bike. Other days, the bike car is full and I am bumped. With all this in mind, I urge Caltrain to reconsider the bike car layout and install plenty of seats within bicycle view, and provide plenty of room for bikes.
