Editor,
The nightmare of an incumbent president possibly in the early stage of dementia seeking reelection has finally ended. The page is finally been turned on the 46th president of the United States.
On Sunday, July 21, a day before my last letter to the Daily Journal, “Democrats need to get act together” was published and just hours after Biden campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond told the host of CBS’s Face the Nation, “And I want to be crystal clear, he’s made a decision. And that decision is to accept the nomination and run for reelection,” President Biden announced on social media that he would “stand down” from the reelection and focus on completing his remaining term as president.
How did the Democrats get their act together so quickly? See Jon Mays’ column published July 26, “Pelosi in charge.” According to Politico (“Why Biden finally quit,” July 21): “‘Nancy made clear that they could do this the easy way or the hard way,’ said one Democrat familiar with private conversations … granted anonymity to speak candidly. ‘She gave them three weeks of the easy way. It was about to be the hard way.’”
The irony of Biden’s decision is that it is the one action that he has done to truly unify the nation, as he promised to do when he became president nearly four years ago. According to The New York Times (July 26), “87 percent of registered voters approved of his decision to drop out. Only 9 percent disapproved.”

Unfortunately it lead to another unqualified Presidential candidate. The Democrats should have let their conventions select a candidate. When will Democrats learn?
Ed, what is unqualified about Kamala? She was an AG and DA in CA: Senator; and now a VP in the WH. How much more qualified would you want her to be? When will you cultists learn to emphasize policies over character assassination?
Rel - does it occur to you that she did not very well, in fact horribly, during the primaries? Clearly, the Democrats now see her push down their throats. Why would you suddenly support her? Don't the Demos have other qualified candidates? Shouldn't there be a convention a and real nomination? She was a lousy DA, a lousy AG and an insignificant senator.
Maybe because she reads at a 3rd grade level and is a palpably stupid person - while you aarf along like a goofy old seal. Which makes sense because you are a scared little child that likes to talk garbage and then run away and never stand behind what you say. You never have the stones to debate - so you should stop commenting - because thats not how forums work - you dont get to be a coward and say dumb things without coming back to defend your statements. Your words are worth no more than a Beetle Baily cartoon.
With LittleFoot in your mouth: What a laughable statement! YOU set yourself up to judge Kamala Harris’ intellect and accomplishments!? Are you a Trump U. "graduate", by any chance? Your assessment fits perfectly your cult leader, whose teachers have said he was the dumbest student they have ever encountered, - which is easy to understand just by listening to what he says! Talk about slow learner!
Say what you will about Harris, she is not unqualified. It would have been ideal if Biden chose not to run for reelection and we saw a repeat of 2019. That will always be the stain of Biden's legacy, not his cognitive decline. The other stain is on the Dem party for going along with Biden's ill-fated decision.
What you miss here is Democrats hide the facts from the American people for some time about Biden's severely compromised mental condition.
Of the two octogenarians who were running, the one with the severely compromised mental condition is Trump. He was so so proud that he passed a very basic cognitive test.
Yes, he certainly was! [LOL]
Westy, apparently you missed the Trump-Biden debate where Biden’s severely compromised mental condition was exposed to millions of willfully ignorant Dems as Trump completely trounced Biden. As for a cognitive test, Biden and his handlers are terrified of Biden undergoing a cognitive test, even a very basic one - and for good reason, as we can conclude from the Trump-Biden debate.
The whole world laughed at that "test"-bragging, - or at least those who understood how stupid it was! Proud of passing a 3rd grade test that most 9-10-year-olds pass, - and with enough common sense not to brag about it! Really something for MAGA-hatters to be proud of! And they still don't get it!
I understand your point, but Joe Briiben's mental decline was painfully obvious over the last four years, he was a complete embarrassment to the United States of America. Democrats knew Briben was compromised but pretended not to know, but because they are dedicated ideologues they continued to be ostriches, because they never throw their own under the bus. ( I do give democrats credit for sticking to their ideology and lies, they can't be broken) The democrats only moved on from Briben because it had reached a point where even the democrats could no longer pretend that Briben was alive and well and they knew there was zero chance in hell that Briben could win. But this is the same game plan democrats follow, regardless of the issue. i.e. Briben did not accept cash from China, Russia and Ukraine etc... and now suddenly Kamala is no longer the border Czar? They can keep up with their ruse because the tabloid media like The NY Times, CNN, MSNBC, FB, Google all join hands and censor or bury the truth. The sheople like Jorg and Rel simply nod their heads, connect to democrat propaganda each night while they sleep so they can be programmed and brainwashed, then they can lie and believe their own lies and bow down to their ideology without shame. And these brainwashed ideologues call us nuts. : )
There was such a cover-up here by the Dem establishment. The one huge exception was Dean Phillips who sacrificed his career in Congress, though I hope he gets back in the game. Thank god that Biden asked for an early debate. That was the epic event in that caused the unraveling of Biden's candidacy. And thank god that Pelosi and company intervened. Now we have a fair fight. But just imagine if Biden had been the "transitional" president that so many Dems thought he would be! As one pundit stated, the 'original sin' was his announcing his reelection in April last year. A great excerpt from the aforementioned WSJ: "After the midterms, Rep. Adam Smith (D., Wash.) said he approached some senators and people in the White House with a question: “Shouldn’t somebody run against Joe?”

Hi Ed,
Believe me, I am well aware of what you write, thanks to the great reporting by the WSJ. There are lots of heros here, people with courage to speak out, e.g., the first Dem. congressman, Lloyd Doggett of Texas – and his district is a safe one for Ds, yet he was the first to start the outcry. WSJ, July 21: "“I am really concerned about what we were not told during these months,” said Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D., Texas) in an interview. “I remain concerned about that—that for whatever reasons, this overprotective, stage-managed kind of operation not only appears to have denied the American people broadly of an understanding of the president’s current situation, but also other elected officials.”
