Aragon (3-0 PAL Bay, 9-6 overall) produced hits up and down the order in a showdown of the top two offenses in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division softball to claim a 6-1 victory at San Mateo (2-1, 6-3).
Aliyah Adle
Sophomore Aliyah Adle led the way, matching her career-high with three hits, including a double and an RBI. Adle capped the Dons’ three-run rally in the second with an RBI double to right. With Aragon leading 3-1 in the seventh, sophomore Chloe Wan produced an RBI single, freshman Natalie Jia doubled home Adle, and senior Destiny Garcia lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Wan.
Aragon’s young starting lineup, including four sophomores and a freshman, entered the day tied for the best team batting average with San Mateo at .373. The Dons outhit their crosstown opponent 10-7. Junior Demi Alfonso paced the Bearcats with three hits, including a double and an RBI.
Aragon starting pitcher Makayla Hafoka went the distance, allowing one run (none earned) on seven hits. The sophomore’s record improves to 3-0.
