Editor,

I can understand why some are concerned that the recent revelations about Justice Alito were recorded secretly. However, his clear acknowledgement of having a religious agenda, were his own words and thoughts. Of much greater (and disqualifying) concern is the fact that Alito appears to have lied through his teeth to Congress during his confirmation hearings.

Don - using your logic, several of the Justices would have been disqualified because of their view on abortion. Another one should not have been sworn in because of her known ambiguous position on womanhood. Why restrict nominations only on religious grounds? How about satanic views?

Jorg

“Satanic views”? What nonsense is that, Dirk? Religion is by far the biggest problem, a very destructive obstacle to clear thinking, honesty and fair play.

Not So Common

Jorg, if "religion is by far the biggest problem, and a very destructive obstacle to clear thinking, honesty and fair play." Then what is your excuse for your lack of honesty and clear thinking?

Jorg

I don't expect you to understand it, but you just provided a fairly typical example of what I meant.

Dirk van Ulden

Jorg is no historian. He does not appreciate that this country's founding was based on religious freedom from tyrannical views in the Old Country.

Jorg

Yes, Dirk! The country was established as a secular union, for very good reasons! But what has happened since then? Religious superstition is seeping in, mainly thanks to Republicans, lured away by Trump and his easily fooled followers who have no idea what they are doing to this otherwise promising country.

Not So Common

Superstitions are creeping in like "Millennials and Gen Z and all these folks that come after us are looking up, and we're like, 'The world is going to end in 12 years if we don't address climate change, and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?' " With love AOC. Or billions of years ago nothing existed, not even Jorg. Nothing was patient and bided its time, and then boom bang, nothing created a perfect universe from nothing. Billions of years later, humans living on earth destroying the entire thing, or maybe just planet earth and Kamala's "planet moon" because cows are passing gas. This all sounds like a lot of hot air to me and quite superstitious. BTW Jorg, according to AOC you have less than seven years left. Time to panic.

Dirk van Ulden

Jorg - funny that you mention superstition. The Salem witch-like hunts have popped up again in the form of the prosecution of Trump, also based on false accusations, superstition and hype. The similarities are scarily stunning.

Jorg

So, Dirk, can you explain what is "false accusations, superstition and hype." about Trump? Use simple language so even I can understand it!

Not So Common, good one on the AOC reflection. Remember six years ago, eco-warrior idol Greta Thunberg predicted that humanity would end in five years? Fortunately for Jorg, he’s living on borrowed time. Unfortunately for us, Jorg hasn’t added much, if any, value during his borrowed time. But I’m optimistic… I’m sure one of these days Jorg will surprise us.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson should have been disqualified for not being able to define a woman. Most likely the result of affirmative action and being appointed for no other reason than being a black woman. I wonder if she considers herself a black woman?

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has never affirmed that the Second Amendment protects the individual, fundamental right of all Americans to keep and bear arms for the defense of themselves or others,” Yet Supreme Court justices and their families are currently covered by federal security protection under US Code. So Ketanji is okay with accepting a security detail for herself and her families, but for "the People." I guess us plebes are replaceable!
