The most interesting moment of last week’s labor union-sponsored interrogation of seven declared Democratic candidates for governor was their response to a question from the union representing oil refinery workers.

They were asked: “As governor, would you be pragmatic to stop targeting California’s oil and gas industry in ways that jeopardize union jobs and force us to rely on dirty or imported energy?”

Thanks for you column today, Mr. Walters. I’m positive each candidate will say whatever they think people want to hear. At least until they’re elected. Afterwards, they’ll likely return to decisions they’ve made in the past. Before voting for a candidate, I’d recommend folks research the background of each candidate and their decisions to determine whether they’re making promises they won’t keep. I’ve been pondering on developing a website to list candidate decisions on important issues and informing the voting public so they won’t be surprised if candidates don’t follow through on their promises. For now, my general recommendation is to vote for Trump-supporting candidates, then Republicans, then the lesser of all evil Democrats.
