Vincent McKenna passed away peacefully in his home in Millbrae, California, on December 4, 2024. He was 89 years old. Affectionately known to friends and family as “Vinnie,” he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, coach, and friend who touched the lives of many in his community.
Vinnie was born on July 27, 1935, in Glasgow, Scotland. He immigrated to California in the early 1960s, where he met and married the love of his life Georgina (King) McKenna. Married for over 55 years, they raised three children Michael, Lisa, and Fiona in Millbrae. Father-in-law to Maria (Meehan) McKenna and Ronnie McGoldrick, proud “Papa” to Aidan McKenna, Ian McGoldrick, and Emmett McGoldrick, Vinnie enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved son Michael, his parents Dennis and Bridget, and his siblings Dennis, Rose, and Richard.
Vinnie’s professional career spanned over 30 years at AAA, where he was known as a strategic salesman and dependable colleague. But his true passion was for football (soccer). Vinnie was a skilled midfielder who played for the San Francisco Greeks, Scots, and Glens. He coached youth soccer for over a decade, passing on his knowledge of the game to his son Michael and Michael’s teammates. An avid fan of Glasgow Celtic Football Club, Vinnie was a founding member of the San Francisco Celtic Supporters Club, sharing with countless others his love for “the beautiful game.” His passion for sport went beyond the pitch, as he often enjoyed playing a round of golf or cheering on the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park with his wife Gina and many friends.
In his later years, Vinnie led a more quiet and serene life at home, under the care of his devoted caregiver, Amelia Hausia and her family. The McKenna family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the loving care and support provided by the Hausia family.
A rosary and memorial mass will be held in Vinnie’s honor on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Church in Burlingame.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local youth sports organization, the Celtic FC Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
All who knew Vinnie loved Vinnie. Hail, hail – “You’ll never walk alone.”
