Richard Attilio Bordi left us peacefully on July 9, 2024. He will be remembered for his work ethic, integrity, love of dancing, singing, hunting, farming, classic cars, and his ability to be a true American Picker.
Richard was born in San Francisco on June 26, 1937, to Attilio and Giuseppina (Maestri), who immigrated from Italy in 1921. As a first generation American he proudly lived in South San Francisco for 87 years. He was preceded in death by his sister Edith (Bordi) Pirazzi.
Richard grew up cultivating vegetables and selling them at the produce market alongside his father. He took over the family business in 1954, demonstrating his dedication to supporting his family. Richard graduated from South San Francisco High School.
He worked for SSF Scavenger Co., Linde Air, and served as a proud SSF Police Reserve Officer. His commitment to public service and community then led him to his career with the City of South San Francisco for 38 years. Prior to his retirement in 2003, a redwood tree was planted in the median on Westborough Blvd., near Hwy 280, “Rich’s tree.” He retired as the Deputy Director of Maintenance Services, and his staff celebrated him with an incredible retirement party.
In 1957, Richard married Marion Ellen Fair in Virginia City, Nevada. Marion entered heaven in 2016 and for nearly 60 years they had a fun-loving relationship. They welcomed four wonderful children, Robert (Denise), Richard (Cristen), Marianne (Bordi) Laskey, Marie (Troy) Patea. Richard was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Kevin (Melody), Heather (Brandon), Nicole (Anthony), Hilary, Joseph, Ryan, Hailey (Walter), Jared, Melissa (Nick), Amanda and six great grandchildren, Luca nine, Lyla seven, Mia five, Coralee four, Hayes 10mo., and Lilian 6mo.
Richard was a proud member of Elks Lodge No 2091, Model A Club, California Deer Association, and a lifetime member of the Italian American Citizens Club, SSF Historical Society, and an honorary member of the Yacht Club. He also served as a board member on the Colma Creek Flood Zone Advisory and volunteered with the Beautification and Improving Public Places committees.
In 1999, Richard’s retirement dream of farming became reality. He bought 100 acres in Stonyford, CA and loved every moment plowing wheat fields, planting, and pruning fruit trees, and enjoying his harvest and the country. In addition to his beautiful family, the Triple R.M. Ranch is his legacy.
Richard will be deeply missed, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
