Marilyn Ellis Clark

Being a MOM was her most important role. Marilyn raised three children of her own as well as guiding and holding close so many others who also called her Mom. She later treasured the evolution of her Mom role to that of Grandmother as each of her grandchildren entered her life.  Marilyn had an uncanny way of imparting wisdom on those that loved her. So often, there was a lesson learned when you didn’t even realize it was warranted.

Her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by friends and family.  Her abundant spirit turned a house into a home. A truly gracious hostess with an eye for detail inside and out, she welcomed everyone in and loved to entertain. Her passion for the outdoors included her beautiful gardens and countless pool parties. Her garden was her happy place, particularly when her roses were in bloom, or when she was getting her hands dirty planting new seeds.

Marilyn reveled in FUN! She was always planning for the next adventure such as trips to Europe, Africa, a family cruise or one of her famous Jeep rides. Her laughter and smile are what made each time with her special and your way of knowing she was enjoying herself and so thankful to offer such memories.

Marilyn thrived on mentoring and helping others through her active involvement in PTA, teaching swim and dive lessons and leading the Camp Fire Girls & Boy Scout Troops. She was a proud member of PEO since 2007 and served on the board of the Family Service Agency of San Mateo in addition to serving as a volunteer for the Coyote Point Museum.

Marilyn worked nearly 20 years for the Child Care Coordinating Council of San Mateo County in the area of early Childhood Development, writing grants and supporting the food program. Her legacy will be carried forward through her three children: James Augustus Clark IV and wife Andrea of Redmond, OR; Geri Anne Martin and husband James F Martin of Burlingame CA; and Robert Taylor Clark and wife Teresa Lindhartsen of Burlingame, CA; her five grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as “Bammie”, James Clark V, Cassidy Clark, Taylor Clark, Kennedee Clark and Jacob Carlos; her two sisters: Joan Ellis Chirgwin and husband Alan of Palm Coast, FL; Suzanne Ellis Orb and husband Alex of Ketchum, ID; and her cousin Frederick F. Ellis and wife Bonnie from Pawleys Island, SC.

We will celebrate Marilyn’s life and legacy on January 25, 2019 in Burlingame at Crosby N. Gray Funeral Home beginning at 11AM followed by a reception at Frattoria e Mare from 1p.m. – 4p.m.

Donations may be made in Marilyn’s name to Mission Hospice & Home Care of San Mateo County, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or PEO Chapter #QK San Mateo, CA.
