Kenneth Neal Duval, born May 22, 1954, in Redwood City, died Dec. 23, 2018.
He grew up in Pacifica where he graduated from Oceania High School in 1973. He earned his pilot license in 1975, and then became a certified flight instructor. In 1983, he began working at the Half Moon Bay Airport then the San Carlos Airport with Crash, Fire and Rescue. In 1995, he joined the IT department as a network administrator in downtown Redwood City.
In 1988, he met Madel at Belmont Brewery, playing pool. Their first date was a flight out of Palo Alto, to the coast, under the Golden Gate Bridge and to Half Moon Bay for dinner. They were married July 22, 1990. They welcomed two sons, Adam in 1992 and Clayton in 1995. The family enjoyed softball games, camping and going to the gun range together.
Ken is survived by his wife, Madel, sons — Adam and Clayton, sister Mary Lou Lovelady of Independence, Oregon, and nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 468 Grand St., Redwood City.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
