Graziella “Grace” Galioto, born Oct. 2, 1929, died Feb. 10, 2018, peacefully in her home.
Born in 1929 in Ferla, Sicily, Grace was a devout Catholic, talented seamstress, and avid cook. Loving wife to her late husband, Franco, for 58 years, they had three children — Filippo (Christine), Salvatore (Carla) and Maria Rita (Joe).
In 1967, she and her family immigrated to the United States and established their home in San Mateo. She worked as a seamstress making intricate bed sheets, dresses for her daughter, and blankets for her grandchildren. At home, Grace would bake homemade bread weekly, sweet lemon biscotti and pizza that she would share with family, friends and neighbors. Grace enjoyed sharing many proverbs she learned from her own grandmother, her favorite of which, “Si non comincia, non finisce,” meaning “If you don’t start, you won’t finish.” A woman of faith, she found solace in saying the rosary and praying to saints. She found joy in her “sei gioielli” (six jewels), her grandchildren — Nora, Olivia, Marco, Alex, Erica and Monica.
“A deeply devoted and generous mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”
