George Louis Crowder, born Nov. 19, 1921, died peacefully Dec. 13, 2018, at the age of 97.
Born to George Albert Crowder and Elizabeth Lottie Lahay in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, George is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eleanor; his three daughters Elaine (Ronald), Yvonne and Lorraine (Samuel); two grandchildren Sharon and Patrick; two great-grandchildren and various nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Albert and Elizabeth Lottie (Vera) Crowder; his brother Miles Albert Crowder; his half-sister Vera Margaret Blair.
After immigrating to California, George studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Canelo School of Music before his induction into the U.S. Army in 1942. Sgt. George Crowder was a favorite vocalist of the U.S. Army 1st Combat Infantry Band. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. In 1948, he joined a theater group and met and married the love of his life, Eleanor. In 1956, he joined the San Francisco Fire Department and retired as a lieutenant after 30 years of service. George also performed in various television shows and movies while performing at many Bay Area senior centers.
A grave side ceremony is 1 p.m. Dec. 21, at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.
