Fazzio, Joseph J., 1903-2005, passed away peacefully on Dec. Joe was born in San Francisco and was raised in the Mission District near St. Paul’s Church. His parents, Giovanni and Maria Fazio immigrated to the United States in the late 1800s from Verbicaro in Calabria, Italy.
Jowe married Elsie Van Tassell in 1926, and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 1995 before Elsie passed away in July of that year.
He went to work at a young age as a printer in San Francisco and made a career in the trade until he retired at 70 years of age. Joe has been an avid fisherman, mostly at Lake Merced in his later years. He was a loyal San Francisco Giants and Forty Niner fan. Joe is survived by his sister, Virginia Thorsted; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Jeanie Fazzio, daughter, Jackie Minter; grandchildren: Kim and Manuel Correia, Jean Marie and Bob Canepa; Linda and Lt. Col. Steven Moore; Gail and Jim Potter; Mike and Linda Fazzio, Joe and Chris Fazzio; Pat Minter; Paul and Corrine Fazzio; and Tony and Sparrow Fazzio; great grand children: Tony and Nicole Correia; Stephen and Sophie Canepa; Ryan, Katie and Eric Moore; Jimmy, Joey, John, Jill and Jake Potter; Andy Fazzio; Samantha, Kylie and Dominic Fazzio; Hannah and Dave Perotti; and Josh and Sarah Kolz; and Sophia Fazzio; great-great grandchildren Bryson Kolz and Jack Perotti.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Vigil Service on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. at Crippen & Flynn at 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont and the Funeral Mass on Friday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at 1040 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont.
