Dorothea Charlotte Stangel, a longtime San Carlos resident, died Nov. 27 at home. She was 72. Born Dec. 18, 1933 in San Francisco’s St. Francis Hospital, Stangel attended Commerce High School before moving with her family to Lake County in 1951. She graduated from Lower Lake High School in Lake County later that year.

After high school, she met her future husband Harry and worked for several years as a dental assistant. She and Harry were married Sept. 19, 1954 and the couple moved to San Francisco. Their only child, Harry Jr., was born in 1956 and the couple settled in San Carlos two years later. Stangel was an avid gardener and took pride in her rose garden. She also loved purebred Doberman Pinschers, owning four over the past 35 years.
