Annette Louise Trucco passed away peacefully on Thursday January 23, 2025. She was 93 years old.
Born in San Francisco in 1931, she was raised in Albany, California where she spent her childhood and early teen years. In 1947, Annette and her parents, Ed and Zita, and her younger brother, Ed Jr., made the permanent move to the Baywood neighborhood of San Mateo, a place she would call home and hold near and dear to her heart.
After graduating from San Mateo High School, Annette went to work for her father’s optical company in San Francisco, ultimately managing the family business until her retirement. Never content to remain too idle, she worked part-time after her retirement in the health care sector, specifically in pediatrics.
Affectionately known as ‘Tante’ by the kids in the family, Annette had a certain joy for life, and at her core was herself just a big kid at heart. Quite often she would plan a special getaway to Disneyland with her niece and nephew (Michelle and Michael) to celebrate their birthdays together and stay at the Disneyland Hotel, parade the theme park every day, ALL day, the three of them visiting every attraction and ride in the park, including the big roller coasters. Years later, her niece and nephew were able to return the gift of joy she had given them by surprising her with a trip back to the Happiest Place on Earth for her 80th birthday.
Annette had a true passion and calling for cooking. For her friends and family, she shared her legendary skills in the kitchen and her world class attention to detail and dish presentation, a trait she picked up from her mother and their Italian heritage. Every meal was carefully and meticulously prepared, especially for the family gatherings during holidays and celebrations where she truly shined. Dinners would last for hours with multiple courses, and the conversation would usually turn to food and various cuisines. She loved good conversation, trivia nights, reading, and staying up to date on current events. She enjoyed evenings out with her friends where her quick wit and dry humor shone while occasionally indulging in a well-crafted martini. She was active in her community and loved to walk downtown San Mateo where she never missed her weekly appointment at the hairdresser.
Family was always a priority for her, and her kind heart extended out to the multiple charities she contributed towards. Her absence will be felt and her impact will be celebrated by all that knew and loved her.
Annette is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Zita Trucco. She is survived by her brother, Edward Trucco, Jr. and his wife, Bjørg Trucco; her niece, Michelle Flynn (Michael Flynn) and nephew, Michael Trucco (Sandra Hess); and her great-nephew and great-niece, Keenan and Hannah Flynn.
