SAN LEANDRO — Authorities say a body found at a garbage collection facility in San Leandro may be that of a missing postal worker.
Hayward police Lt. Chris Orrey say officers found the body Monday morning when they searched piles of trash at Waste Management’s Davis Street Transfer Center.
Police received a report at 4:45 a.m. Monday that a Hayward post office employee had disappeared.
Investigators did not find the missing employee near the post office or at the employee’s home.
Orrey says the investigators decided to go the Waste Management facility after they learned that a trash collector had emptied a garbage container some time before the employee was reported missing.
Police say they will not release information about the missing person until family members have been notified.
