OAKLAND — The U.S. Coast Guard says it has recovered the body of an unidentified woman who boarded a ferry boat in San Francisco and was reported missing by the crew when the vessel arrived in Oakland.
Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Jeremy Pichette says a helicopter crew conducting pilot training exercises spotted a body in San Francisco Bay just before 10 a.m. Friday, about 40 minutes after the ferry’s captain had reported a possible person overboard.
Pichette says it is not yet known if the woman fell or jumped from the ferry. He says witnesses recalled seeing her aboard the boat, but no one saw her enter the water.
The body was located in the Oakland side of the bay.
