TURLOCK — Workers are surrounding numerous university buildings with chain-link fencing as part of the final preparations for Sarah Palin’s upcoming visit to California State University, Stanislaus.
Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate, is scheduled to headline a black-tie fundraiser on campus Friday night.
University spokeswoman Eve Hightower said the fencing was standard procedure and said the campus would remain open to students going to class. She said the university also was implementing security measures, but did not elaborate.
Palin’s appearance has generated widespread coverage and criticism since the nonprofit foundation organizing the event made the announcement in March.
University officials have not divulged the terms of the former Alaska governor’s contract or her speaking fee.
