Patricia Chesnut Foster, wife of Foster City founder T. Jack Foster Jr., died at home Monday, Nov. 8 after a battle with cancer and other ailments. She was 79.
Foster was noted for her love of family and friends along with extensive work with local charities; and for her humor, organization, intelligence and remarkable sense of style.
Foster was born in Miami, Okla. April 15, 1931. The eldest of three girls — Patricia, Marilou and Brenda — she was raised by her parents Wylie and Pauline Chesnut. She graduated from Holland Hall in Tulsa, Okla. in 1948, attended Mills College in Oakland her freshman year and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1952.
The following year, Foster moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where she met and fell in love with real estate developer T. Jack Foster Jr., who was also from Oklahoma. They married in 1954. She is survived by her husband; their three children: daughter Lee and sons T. Jack III and Mark and their spouses; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Fosters moved to Hillsborough in 1960 to allow T. Jack Jr. and his family to begin developing Foster City.
Foster had no problem making friends. She loved to dance and sing. Foster had a history of helping others. She was a founding member and second president of the Family Service Auxiliary; vice president of the Auxiliary to the Society of Crippled Children and Adults (now Community Gatepath); chair of the Fashion Show Committee of the Junior League of San Francisco; and chair of the Fol de Rol of the San Francisco Opera Guild. She was also one of the founders of the auxiliary and board member for PARCA; secretary and vice president of the Hillsborough Garden Club; and chair of the Women’s Committee of the First Presbyterian Church in Burlingame. She has served with Travelers Aid, San Francisco Airport; Children’s Hospital, San Francisco; and with various Hillsborough PTA activities. She was jointly honored with her husband T. Jack by the Volunteer Center as Volunteers of the Year.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame. In lieu of flowers, the family asked contributions be made in her honor to either Community Gatepath in Burlingame or Hillbarn Theatre in Foster City.
